Berkleemusic.com, the continuing education division of the renowned Berklee College of Music, has announced Nino Russo as winner of the Ed Cherney Celebrity Online Scholarship Program. Producer/engineer Ed Cherney (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton) joins a growing list of celebrities who are helping to support Berkleemusic’s promising online students to achieve their goals of a life in music.

The scholarship program is designed to reward and assist outstanding students who demonstrate superior academic performance studying at Berkleemusic. Online student Nino Russo of Switzerland has completed a number of courses and will apply his scholarship to study for the Master Certificate in Music Production and Technology.

“What an honor to receive this scholarship,” says Russo. “Ed Cherney has been a main inspiration for me as a mixer and producer. And after I completed the Critical Listening course at Berkleemusic I was better able to understand the intricacies of his mixing techniques. My goal is to learn from the best and he is one of the best ever.”

Ed Cherney explains his participation in the Berkleemusic.com scholarship program: “When I was starting out there were always people who were more experienced and more successful who were willing to share their knowledge, and to share their hearts and souls. So I take every opportunity to share what I know, and to give back, and to nurture careers and help people along. If this scholarship helps bring somebody along, I am gratified.”

Scholarship-winner Russo continues: “Receiving the Berkleemusic scholarship has helped me to believe in what I do and to know that I am on the right path. This gives me added energy to complete my Master Certificate and to achieve my goal of becoming a successful songwriter and producer.” Through his online studies and networking at Berkleemusic, Russo has already landed a publishing contract with UK’s Leopard Music Group and is collaborating with recording artists in Europe and South America.

Enrollment is still open for the Winter Term at Berkleemusic.com, beginning January 12, 2009.
