BUENA PARK, Calif.—Boulevard Professional (Oradell, N.J.) recently installed a NEXO GEO S12 line array system along with Yamaha LS9-32 and SB168-ES Stage Box at the Goodwill Church in Montgomery, New York. Several years ago, the company was called in to design and install a state-of-the-art sound system for a new worship space. Unexpectedly, funding was cut and it appeared the installation would be placed on the back burner. In a successful fund raising mission by members of church, the goal required to purchase and install a new system had been met, and by the fall of last year, work had begun.
The 700-seat contemporary church has a diverse, active congregation with 1,000 in attendance each week. A full band and six vocalists accompany the sermons. “It was very apparent early on that a new system for Goodwill Church would not just be for spoken word,� states James Cioffi,
co-owner, Boulevard Pro. “Executive Pastor, Jay Lee, wanted a system that could handle spoken word and the high output requirement of the in-house music ministry. After meeting with Worship Pastor Joshua Stewart and head audio tech Dale Girardin, we determined that the new space would be a perfect fit for the NEXO GEOS 12 line array system.�
Boulevard project manager/designer John Orth, Cioffi, and installation techs Jamie Moran and Bryan Interino, installed ten NEXO GEOS 1210 speakers for front fills, two NEXO GEO S 1230s for down fills, a 4X4 NXAMP, and two RS15 subs. Six Yamaha Club Series CM12 floor monitors on four stage mixes round out the system.
The new 70-volt system and all video mixes are fed from a Yamaha LS9 at front of house. “Dale did his research and really knows the Yamaha console inside and out,� Cioffi says. In the design/budget phase, Orth and Cioffi went through console choices, and with the church budget a main consideration the Yamaha LS9-32 was the logical decision. Girardin wanted a console with a simple learning curve and easy human interface. “The LS9-32 on-board DSP control and 16 outputs sealed the deal,� Cioffi notes.
“We love our new system; it is like we were driving a golf cart and now we’re driving a Ferrari,� states Girardin. “The digital board has changed the way we, or anyone else who converts from analog to digital, mixes sound forever. We are able to do things with this system we never dreamed about with our old analog system. For example, with the Yamaha StageMix app for the iPad, I can control our LS9-32 remotely from anywhere in the building. This has given me so much freedom; I am able to get on stage and mix the monitors while standing on the stage right next to the performers. The other surprise, at first, was the power and clarity of this system.“
“Since the system was installed, there has been nothing but rave reviews and its performance has been rock solid,� adds Cioffi.
