CONIFER COLORADO — Danny Seraphine, original drummer and founding member of the band Chicago, has teamed up with Colorado’s premiere funk band, Funkiphino, for several select performances in the Denver area where they will be relying on Aviom’s Pro64® network along with Pro16® Personal Mixers. Both Seraphine and Funkiphino, dedicated users of Aviom gear, will be using the system as part of their setup at every one of the Denver performances.
Seraphine, a long-time friend of Funkiphino Keyboardist/Manager Chris Fischer, decided to have the groups collaborate on a Chicago tribute, featuring material from Chicago’s early years. The Aviom setup allows the group to be prepared for any situation whether it’s a performance in a nightclub or an open-air venue such as the Conifer Mountain Music Festival.
“Because you don’t need to spend a lot of time with sound check, Aviom is the perfect solution when you’re performing in a show like the Conifer Mountain Music Festival where there are multiple bands participating, all with different setups, and you need to quickly pack up,” says Fischer. “We roll in and our Aviom monitors are already mixed and our front of house mix is ready as well. Whether we’re playing at a wedding or a huge festival, Aviom’s Pro64 and personal mixers work great.”
Seraphine finds Aviom’s personal mixers to be an asset for any performance – especially when playing with a large 13-piece group such as Funkiphino. “I love to be able to make my own mix and control how much of each instrument I want in my in-ears. That is a very powerful and efficient way to work,” he explains. “I love how simple and yet effective the Aviom system is. It is easy to use yet doesn’t sacrifice sonic quality.”
For the Denver performances, Funkiphino and Seraphine will be using the group’s signature Aviom setup. All gear for front of house is rack-mounted and located backstage. In this rack is a Yamaha DM1000 digital console for the front-of-house mix. With an Aviom 6416m Mic Input Module and the 6416Y2 A Net® Interface Card, the band is able to send 16 channels of digital audio directly into its console from the stage inputs. The 6416Y2 card also sends 16 returns to the band’s A-16R Personal Mixers via an ASI A-Net Systems Interface that converts Pro64 A-Net to Pro16 A-Net. Utilizing a Tablet PC that is wirelessly connected to the console, the sound engineer for Funkiphino is able to control the console remotely from the typical front-of-house position. This setup allows each band member to have a customized monitor mix while also allowing the group to maintain consistency with their front of house sound.
