D.A.S. AUDIO DELIVERS SUMMER CONCERT SERIES AT PROVIDENT BANK PARK

Ramapo, NY – September 2012 … Provident Bank Park is home to the Rockland Boulders minor league baseball team as well as the St. Thomas Aquinas College baseball team. Opened in June of 2011, the stadium is also undergoing its first season as a summer concert venue. Featuring a variety of well-known acts, including Gavin DeGraw, Colbie Caillat, Gretchen Wilson, REO Speedwagon, and Smashmouth, among others, Provident Bank Park has rapidly become an important destination for sports and entertainment. To ensure the best possible audio quality for its patrons, stadium management wanted a world-class sound system. They found it with a collection of loudspeakers drawn from the Aero Series 2 catalog of Valencia, Spain-based D.A.S. Audio.

Dynamic Productions, a full event production, sound, lighting and staging company headquartered in Orangeburg, NY, was contracted to provide staging, lighting, sound, video, and full production support for this season’s concert series. Working in conjunction with D.A.S. Audio’s Miami, FL-based office, company owner Brian Rosenblum and his team deployed a sound system incorporating numerous Aero 12A powered, compact, 2-way, line array modules, LX-218CA powered, high performance subwoofers, Aero 8A powered, ultra-compact, 2-way line array modules, and Road 12A, powered, 2-way stage monitors. Rosenblum discussed the project.

“Being a relatively new stadium that had never hosted any prior concerts, we found ourselves with a clean slate in terms of what equipment would be deployed,” Rosenblum explained. “The stage is located in the outfield about 60 feet behind second base and it faces in toward home plate. The main challenges in this venue were that the audience could potentially be seated up to 350’ away from the PA (behind and above home plate), and well beyond 1st and 3rd base. This required a PA system capable of long distance throw and wide 180+ degree coverage. Because of this unique situation, we consulted with D.A.S. Audio’s Carlos Henao in an effort to ensure we provided a good loudspeaker fit.”

The system Henao modeled for this project included a primary setup that involved a total of thirty-two D.A.S. Audio Aero 12A’s—positioned sixteen enclosures per side for the house mains. These loudspeakers were augmented by outfills on the extreme left and right—each encompassing six Aero 8A’s. To ensure coverage across the front area of the stage, Rosenblum’s team placed another four Aero 12A’s for front fill. Low frequency support is equally impressive, with sixteen D.A.S. LX-218CA sub bass enclosures on the scene—in a staggered center configuration. Completing the setup, a D.A.S. Audio DSP-4080 digital processor was deployed to handle loudspeaker management tasks.

Rosenblum commented on D.A.S. Audio’s customer service, “I couldn’t be more impressed with the company’s technical support. Carlos modeled the entire system for us and even came on-site to ensure everything was going according to plan. That level of support is rare in this business and we really appreciate all that he did.”

With the Summer Concert Series in full swing, Rosenblum reports that everything is going really well and that several engineers responded very positively to the system. Jerad ‘Gremlin’ Reimers, FOH Sound Engineer for Soul Asylum and ReadyGoes said, “I had never worked on a powered PA of that size before and was very impressed by its range and durability. The system delivered fantastic clarity and great overall sonic representation and response. I can’t wait to work on another DAS system.”

Similarly, Neil Schaefer, FOH engineer for REO Speedwagon, said, “My first opportunity to use the D.A.S. Aero system (Aero 12a/LX218a) was a very positive experience. I was pleasantly surprised at the crisp smooth high end and very solid frequency response. I look forward to the next chance to get in front of this system.”

“Everybody is very happy with the sound,” Rosenblum said. “You can walk through the venue and, everywhere you go, the sound is clear, musical, and coverage is consistent. We’ve had numerous members of the audience tell us how good everything sounds. Perhaps even more important, our client is very pleased. With a first-time endeavor of this nature, you don’t always know what to expect. For us, the project has turned out to be everything that we envisioned—and D.A.S. Audio was a major part of our success.”
