Las Vegas, NV – February 2012… Located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, the Imperial Palace has been a prominent tourist destination for years—thanks in no small part to the fact that it houses the world’s largest and finest classic car showroom, a wealth of entertainment options, as well as the property’s prime location for the city’s booming convention business and its easy access to the Las Vegas monorail. The hotel’s Human Nature Theater is particularly popular and features Australia’s Human Nature—The Ultimate Celebration of Motown, showcasing the distinctive, dynamic harmonies of members Toby Allen, Phil Burton, Andrew Tierney, and Michael Tierney. The theater recently received a substantial upgrade of its sound reinforcement system, all of which is derived from the Aero Series 2 catalog of Valencia, Spain-based D.A.S. Audio.

J. Eric D’Richards is Technical Director at the Imperial Palace and oversees a myriad of responsibilities such as lighting, sound, and the many additional factors that contribute to the Human Nature Theater’s overall success. After evaluating a number of sound reinforcement systems, he ultimately selected the D.A.S. Audio system, which is comprised of Aero 8 ultra-compact, powered 2-way line array elements, Aero 12A powered two-way, mid-high line array modules, and LX-218A powered high performance subwoofers—all of which are managed by a D.A.S. Audio DSP-4080 Stereo / Mono loudspeaker processor. D’Richards discussed the factors that led to the selection of the D.A.S. loudspeaker system.

“We evaluated a number of sound systems from several manufacturers,” D’Richards explained, “and overall, the D.A.S. system offered the ideal blend of system performance and value. The Aero 2 system’s compact form factor and low profile appearance from the house perspective was just right, as it didn’t interfere with the audience’s line of sight to the stage. Equally notable, the sound quality of the equipment is very impressive. The system exhibits excellent speech intelligibility and music reproduction capabilities as well as even dispersion throughout the room—all of which were prominent factors in the equipment’s deployment.”

The setup in the Human Nature Theater consists of two main loudspeaker clusters. These clusters—flown over the left and right front edges of the stage—each consist of six D.A.S. Aero 12A loudspeakers. For low frequency support, five LX-218A subwoofers are positioned. There are two LX218A’s stacked on both the left and right sides of the stage, while the fifth enclosure is positioned inside a recessed cubicle underneath the front center of the stage. Two D.A.S. Aero 8A enclosures reside atop each of the LX-218A stacks at the stage sides. These loudspeakers function as in-fill enclosures and are angled in toward the front / center seating area immediately in front of the stage. Loudspeaker management for the entire setup is provided by D.A.S. Audio’s DSP-4080 Stereo / Mono processor.

D’Richards discussed a number of additional factors that made the D.A.S. Audio Aero Series 2 loudspeaker system the best possible choice for the venue. “I really appreciate the fact that the entire system is self-powered,” says D’Richards. “We have limited space in this room, so the fact that we didn’t have to concern ourselves with housing a separate equipment rack just for power amplifiers was a big plus. The system’s self-powered design also streamlined system cabling considerably.”

“We have three shows each day here: Name That Tune Live in the afternoon, Human Nature in the evening, and Frank Marino’s Divas Las Vegas as our late night entertainment,” he continued. “Given the diversity of our entertainment, we needed a system that was versatile and could handle everything from A-Cappella vocals and heavy dance oriented music to the clear speech intelligibility necessary for a game show. Our new D.A.S. system delivers on all fronts.”

Before turning his attention to other business, D’Richards offered this parting thought, “I couldn’t be happier with the new system. After the rigging was handled by In-House Production of Las Vegas, David Rudder, Craig Palcisko (the sound engineers for Human Nature and Name That Tune Live respectively) and I handled the rest of the project. I was particularly impressed with the fact that D.A.S. Audio sent Carlos Henao, the company’s U.S. Accounts Manager, to oversee the project. That level of customer service is rare these days. We do 72 shows per month in this room, so sound quality and reliability is vitally important. In the seven plus months we’ve had the equipment, I’ve encountered no issues whatsoever. In terms of performance, our D.A.S. system has been terrific and, as other sound reinforcement requirements evolve, D.A.S. Audio will be at the top of our list.”
