D.A.S. AUDIO SETS THE TONE FOR CHASWOOD RESOURCES

T.G.I. Fridays in Kuala Lumpur

Selangor, Malaysia – December 2010… We all have our favorite restaurants and, to a large extent, the nature of the food served at any given establishment is only one of several elements that attract us. Atmosphere is, of course, another significant factor that appeals to patrons—be it the kick back and celebrate the weekend tone of T.G.I. Fridays or the happy-go-lucky ambience of Malones Irish Restaurant and Bar. When it comes to atmosphere, music is a key ingredient and that’s precisely why ChasWood Resources, one of Malaysia’s largest multi-concept operators in the restaurant industry, uses D.A.S. Audio loudspeaker systems.

Felix Paul is ChasWood’s sound engineer. Throughout the company’s various properties, his responsibilities include consultation, design, and installation of all sound systems as well as system maintenance and mixing for live and special events. Paul recently completed the installation of new loudspeaker systems at several properties, including Laundry, Italiannies, Malones, and T.G.I. Fridays. He discussed each system.

“Located at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, Laundry is a popular gathering spot with an emphasis on music—both live and background / DJ’s, explained Paul. “For this venue, we deployed two D.A.S. Audio RF-15.64 passive/active 2-way loudspeakers atop two Compact 218 subwoofers per side for the mains and, for stage monitoring, there are four MI-112N 2-way, full-range loudspeaker enclosures. D.A.S. Audio H-3000 and H-4000 power amps—one each—plus two PS-800 amps drive the system while a D.A.S. DSP-26 processor handles loudspeaker management tasks.

“If you like pizza and other Italian foods, Italiannies is the place to be, Paul continued. “Like Laundry, the D.A.S. loudspeaker system at Italiannies handles both live and background music. This system uses two D.A.S. Audio Artec 28 2-way passive loudspeakers at the bar along with eight Artec 26 2-way enclosures completing the setup. Stage monitoring is handled by two MI-112N loudspeakers. Six D.A.S. Audio PS-800 power amps drive the system.

Malones @Sooka Sentral in Kuala Lumpur sports an Irish theme and, here too, both live and background music are central to the restaurant’s ambience. “At Malones, said Paul, “we have four D.A.S. Artec 8 2-way, passive loudspeakers covering the outdoor area and, indoors, we installed D.A.S. Avant 12A, 2-way, powered loudspeakers. Two D.A.S. Audio MI-112N loudspeakers handle stage monitoring responsibilities. We have a combination of two D.A.S. PS-800 and one PS-400 power amp driving the Artec loudspeakers.

“At Menara Hap Seng in Kuala Lumpur, T.G.I. Fridays has a D.A.S. system comprised of four Artec 25 2-way, passive loudspeakers around the top of the bar plus four Arco 4 2-way loudspeakers in the surrounding outdoor area, Paul notes. “For low end reinforcement, we installed six D.A.S. Arco 12 subwoofers throughout the ceiling area. A total of eight D.A.S. Audio CL-6TB ceiling loudspeakers cover the indoor dining area. Four D.A.S. PS-800 and two PS-400 power amps drive the loudspeakers. This system handles both background music as well as DJ performances.

When asked about those D.A.S. Audio qualities that most appeal to him, Paul offered the following thoughts. “I love the full-range sound of the D.A.S. loudspeakers, he said. “We get excellent coverage throughout and the loudspeakers’ ability to reproduce music sounds very natural. I’ve also been very pleased with D.A.S. Audio’s customer/technical support. All the equipment is well made and is working perfectly. Our customers have been very complimentary —and that’s always good for business.
