Daytona State College Chooses Solid State Logic Duality as Centerpiece for New Music Production Technology Program

Duality Controls Multiple DAW Platforms While Providing Real-World Experience

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – The Daytona State College Mike Curb College of Art, Music and Science features a 48-channel Solid State Logic Duality console for its new music production technology program. Duality was chosen because it’s an excellent teaching tool that demonstrates how music is made in today’s recording environment through SSL’s signature SuperAnalogue™ sound and signal path with simultaneous control of two DAW software platforms from the console surface. Classes officially begin in January, 2010.

“We assembled a team of experts to examine what console would work best for our new recording arts program and the decision was unanimous for the SSL Duality, says Jake Niceley, instructor of music production technology in the school of music entertainment and art at Daytona State College. “We are teaching the craft of sound recording and,

in addition to the excellent EQ and dynamics processing on the console, we will use many types of analog outboard gear. Interfacing this gear cannot be easily accomplished through a control surface. Duality also allows us to address our different DAW platforms right from the console and that is very important to us. We will use a wide variety of equipment to educate our students in the art of audio capture and Duality has the power to bring together these different elements into a cohesive teaching system. The Music Production Technology Advisory Panel that helped with the design consisted of Mike Cronin for acoustic design; mastering engineer Jim Kaiser; independent record/mix engineers Steve Bishir, Chuck Ainlay, Bob Bullock; Aaron Bowlin from Curb Records and audio educator Michael Fleming. “While people like the flexibility and editing power of a workstation, we see that high quality analogue circuitry still serves the commercial professional environment and the upscale private facility as well, states Niceley. “The combination of Duality and our various DAW programs will allow our students to experience situations they will find in the marketplace after they earn their degrees and certifications. Solid State Logic is the world’s leading manufacturer of analogue and digital audio consoles and provider of creative tools for music, broadcast and post production professionals. For more information about our award-winning products, please visit: www.solid-state-logic.com.
