Hundreds of south Florida philanthropists returned to Miami on Nov. 1 for the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s bi-annual “In the Garden of Dreams gala, to help raise money for cancer research. This year’s elegant event, “In the Garden of Dreams 2, was held at the Miami Beach Convention Center. R&B star Ruby Baker was the main attraction.
Also returning for the gala was Miami-based Drummer Boy Sound (DBS) and their Dynacord Cobra sound system. Harold Cummings, founder and CEO of DBS, was happy to provide his services to Tropics Entertainment and the U of M for the event.
To address the challenges of the larger space, DBS used a Dynacord Cobra-2 system, providing wide, deep coverage and superb full bandwidth intelligibility in a very compact package. DBS often deploys their Cobra system as a ground stacked line array; in this application, individual boxes were flown from the overhead trussing above the centrally positioned stage, proving the Cobra’s versatility once again. Six Cobra Subs were ground-stacked around the stage on all four sides. The system also featured Electro-Voice QRx,Xi, and ZX1 loudspeakers as fills and monitors, powered by EV P3000RL and CP2200 power amplifiers.
“Our Cobra-2 was a perfect fit for the hall, says Cummings. “It provided warm, clean sound for every seat in the house. The dedicated amp and processing in the Cobra drive rack ensured optimal performance, while keeping a nice tidy footprint.
To monitor the system’s numerous video feeds, DBS placed a Midas Siena at Front of House. “Every component in the signal chain was of the highest quality, Cummings adds, “adding finesse to this very classy event.
