Great American Songbook Selections Produced by Sunny Levine
“Ear Theatre, Volume 1,” an instrumental anthology from the Great American Songbook, has been mastered at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, CA. Produced by Sunny Levine, the debut album includes “When You Wish Upon a Star,” “Stardust, and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” among other classics.
From the liner notes: “The music that was created during this ‘Golden Age of Song’ comprises a body of work that is definitely America’s greatest contribution to the Art of the 20th Century. This new album is not nostalgia. We are not attempting to re-create instrumental interpretations in the styles of the past.
Instead we have chosen to present these melodies in a starkly contemporary manner. “
Ear Theatre’s players are Giuseppe Patane´, bass; Stewart Levine, clarinet/sax; Eamon Ryland, guitar; and Sunny Levine, beats. Producer Sunny Levine is known for his work with a diverse group of musicians, including Pete Yorn and Scartlett Johansson, Shaun Ryder and the Happy Mondays, Hugh Masekela, Mozella, Mickey Avalon, and Ariel Pink. His father Stewart Levine has produced B.B King, Minnie Ripperton, Joe Cocker, Dr. John, Simply Red, and Jamie Cullum, among many others.
Sunny Levine comments, “Starting from the premise that it’s not what you add, it’s what you leave out, we have stripped these timeless tunes down to their most basic melodic brilliance and created an atmosphere in which to place them. Our intention is not to reinvent the wheel, just to keep it spinning. Hope you enjoy the ride.”
