Earthworks’ Sponsored Artist Robin DiMaggio Combines Musical Talent, Humanity and Technical Innovation

Milford, NH, August 10, 2009–Earthworks, manufacturer of High Definition MicrophonesTM, announced that it has signed the highly accomplished drummer and percussionist Robin DiMaggio as its most recently endorsed recording and touring artist. In addition to being well known as one of the world’s premiere drummers and percussionists, Robin is also a highly skilled songwriter, composer, conductor, arranger, producer, and instrumentalist on the piano, bass, saxophone, and clarinet.

As a musician, Robin’s credits read like a who’s who in modern-day music. He has toured and recorded with music legends like Paul Simon, David Bowie, Jackson Browne, Diana Ross, Luther Vandross, Johnny Cash and has also worked extensively with acclaimed world musicians such as sitarist/composer Ravi Shankar and violin maestro L. Shankar. DiMaggio’s recent music-related efforts have been humanitarian related. Recently, he has been re-appointed as Music Director for the United Nations Millennium Development Goals Awards,

to be held in Senegal

in September 2009 and in Abu Dhabi in March 2010.

DiMaggio relies on Earthworks microphones to accurately capture his sound, and especially appreciates the natural response and accurate response patterns. He remembers how it felt when he first received his DFK1 Full DrumKit System and his DK50/R: “When I saw them and opened them, I knew they were the goods. It’s as if you wake up on Christmas morning and somebody puts a Maserati right in your driveway. Aesthetically, these mics are beautiful and when you listen back, they sound spectacular.”

Whether it is during a performance for The Pope at the Vatican, an awards gig for the U.N. General Assembly or at Radio City Music Hall where he will be performing this month for the Brain Arts Festival, it’s safe to say DiMaggio has very demanding technical standards. He recalls a moment where he and a live sound engineer put up an Earthworks DP25/C drum mic on the snare during the sound check for an awards performance at the U.N General Assembly: “We listened to the mixes and soloed each individual track. The drum mics picked up only the sound of the drums, canceling out other unwanted sounds from the stage. The microphone pattern response was so accurate that the engineer was in awe. These mics only pick up what you want them to pick up and this is obviously very important in live performance settings.”

Beyond polar patterns and aesthetics, the ultimate test for a microphone however is its sound quality, an area where the Earthworks DP 25 excels: “What you hear back in the cans sounds exactly like what you played. Earthworks is capable of capturing the dynamics and authenticity of what you are playing, no matter what the style,” DiMaggio concludes.
