Edmonton School of the Arts installs d&b T-Series.

ASHEVILLE, NC 9.17.20—Victoria School of the Arts is a public school in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada operated by the Edmonton Public Schools system offering students from Kindergarten through Grade 12 an International Baccalaureate aligned, arts-focused education. It is recognized as one of the top arts-focused schools in North America.

Allstar Show Industries Inc. (Edmonton) was tasked with an upgrade to the school’s sound system for the 685-seat Eva O. Howard Theatre and chose the compact and lightweight d&b T-Series line array system. “d&b ArrayCalc processing was used for analysis by Trevor Nash at d&b who determined that the T-Series was the best product for the space,” states Wayne Rabidoux, CTS, Allstar Show Industries. The T-Series center array with the 24S point source loudspeakers left and right provides excellent audio coverage throughout the facility, and also deliver precise directivity control due to the dipolar low-frequency component arrangements within the cabinets..

Rabidoux said that the building is very old and hanging the center cluster through a plaster ceiling and from a ceiling space built in the 1940’s had its challenges. “Allstar chose to use beam clamps from the existing structure and passed aircraft cable through two precision cut holes. This was accomplished with one man on a scissor lift and one man safely nestled in the ceiling structure.”

“The theatre was built in 1947 and was the A House in Edmonton until the Jubilee Auditorium was built,” states Nico Van Der Kley, technical director. “The theatre is used for performances by the school and is rented out to community groups so when looking for a sound system upgrade, I needed a system that is flexible and sounds great, from a talking head at a podium and a musical theatre production to a concert band and jazz band, etc. After looking at a few different options, I felt that the d&b T-Series loudspeakers provide the sound quality and performance capability that we needed for our theatre. It is definitely the best sounding venue of its size in the Edmonton area.”

The L R C system consists of 7 x Ti10L line array modules for the center array, 2 x 24S 2-way loudspeakers for L & R, 5 x 5S 2-way coaxial loudspeakers for front fills, 2 x 27A-SUB that are flown behind the center array and 4 x V-GSUB cardioid subs on the ground, all of which are powered and processed by 4 x 30D amplifiers.
