EQUATOR DEVELOPES DRIVER REPLACEMENT UTILITY SOFTWARE

Equator co-axial transducer

Software ensures matched driver replacement
San Diego, CA –July 13, 2010… Equator Audio Research, recognized globally as a leading manufacturer of highly accurate studio reference monitors for mission critical recording applications, is pleased to announce that replacing a transducer in the field is now much easier with the development of the Driver Replacement Utility Software.

Equator 2-way, active monitoring systems employ a Zero-Point Reference™ coaxial design. Each model houses a CPU that handles numerous tasks, including matching the Digitally-Controlled Transducers™ output. Matching the speaker’s output was one of the initial design goals of the product.

At the factory, after an Equator transducer is manufactured, it is placed into a “golden cabinet within an anechoic chamber and swept. The actual frequency characteristics of each transducer are measured.

If the transducer passes the initial tolerance specification it is moved to its final cabinet destination. The coefficients obtained from the transducer sweep are then loaded via USB into that unit. The internal CPU receives the coefficients and then applies the appropriate filters required to deliver a consistently matched output.

Until now, if a diaphragm or woofer problem developed in the field the entire system would need to be shipped back to Equator for repair in order to properly match the new transducer output to the standard.

Now if a field replacement is required, the new transducer can be shipped with its data file along with the DRU Utility. This newly developed DRU (Driver Replacement Utility) is an easy to use, end-user application that allows the new transducer information to be loaded into the internal CPU via USB, just as it is done at the factory. This process ensures a matched output with the other similar model units in the system.

The DRU software can very quickly retrieve from any Q Series monitor the residing transducer information as well as load in the replacement transducer information.

“We’ve had very few speaker failures but the addition of this utility adds a high level of professionalism and confidence in the process stated Equator Operations Manager Martin Bradley.

About Equator Audio Research
Equator Audio Research is committed to delivering studio reference monitor solutions that overcome the myriad of challenges faced in today’s production environment. Audible obstacles such as comb-filtering from computer screens and consoles, standing waves, uneven first reflections, asymmetrical speaker placement, and poor low frequency diffusion can easily degrade the listening experience. Equator Audio Research designs products that overcome these challenges. Our products are used daily in mission-critical applications at many of the world’s finest recording studios.
