FLASHPOINT ACADEMY GIVES HIGH GRADES IN ACOUSTICS TO AURALEX

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Auralex Acoustics, the leader in sound control solutions, recently scored an A+ from Chicago’s Flashpoint Academy when the company outfitted the College’s new Recording Arts Suites with its best-selling acoustical treatment products.

Flashpoint is the first new digital media arts college of its kind, offering intensive two year programs in five digital disciplines — Film, Recording Arts, VFX/Animation, Game Development and Broadcast Media. Committed to the advancement of higher learning in these fields of digital arts and entertainment technologies, its Recording Arts program is taught completely hands-on in professionally designed recording studios and state-of-the-art digital audio laboratories and classrooms. The Recording Arts program has three main components: Studio-based music recording of many different genres—everything from Industrial to Vocal Jazz, Worldbeat to Chamber Music, and Modern Electric Blues to Pop; field recording including production audio on location film sets, non-sync sound effects, ambiences, and sound elements to be utilized in postproduction; and sound design for film, games, and animation with final output in both 5.1 surround and stereo. With the majority of the Recording Arts students’ education taking place in these highly advanced recording spaces, sonic fidelity was a top priority.

“Auralex created original acoustical layouts for Flashpoint focusing on improved sound control and accuracy while remaining a cost-effective solution, says Dave Paxton, director of operations, Auralex Acoustics. “Flashpoint Academy is a truly unique learning environment. We are happy that we can contribute to creating a more precise sounding room for these aspiring students to work and learn in.

The installation at Flashpoint involved several spaces within the Recording Arts and Film Department including the Academy’s Music Control Studio, Post Control Studio, Recording Studios, Foley Studio, editing suites, Screening Room, and numerous voiceover and ISO booths. Auralex analyzed and specified a total of (77) custom-sized SonoSuede Panels and (16) pArtScience SpaceArray Diffusors to achieve the sound quality Flashpoint was looking for. Products were secured through Music Garage Chicago, a leading regional dealer of Auralex’s acoustical treatments.

“Working with Auralex was such a pleasure. Their team understood our desire to provide the finest in acoustical precision and worked with us to create the ideal sound solutions and aesthetic excellence we demanded throughout campus. They were terrifically mindful of our tight timeframes and budget, says Barbara S. Pollack, Vice President of Marketing and Development at Flashpoint Academy and the Project Manager and Designer of the Flashpoint project. “We will continue to rely on Auralex as we expand Flashpoint’s campus footprint.

The SonoSuede System — consisting of the HT and Pro models — offers greater diversity and benefits, while presenting a wider multitude of decorative options. The SonoSuede Pro System features four 16x48x2 thick back-beveled panels predominantly used for corner trapping, and eight 16x48x1 rectangular-shaped back-beveled panels for a total of 64 square feet. The SonoSuede HT System consists of four 16x48x2 thick back-beveled panels and eight trapezoidal-shaped square-edge panels 16x48x1, for a total of 54 square feet.

Designed by Russ Berger, the pArtScience SpaceArray combines excellent hemispherical acoustical diffusion with a top-quality wood finish. Based on a quasi-random series that provides superior performance without visual patterning, the SpaceArray is ideal for control rooms, auditoriums, performance venues, listening rooms, home theaters and worship spaces. Strong yet lightweight, the beautiful 24″x24″ solid paulownia wood panels install easily and can be used in a variety of placement options, including “T-barâ€? grids.
