New York, NY (Sports Network) – Kelly Pavlik will face veteran Bernard Hopkins in a light heavyweight bout set for Atlantic Citys famous Boardwalk Hall in October. Tony Gonzalez Jersey . Pavlik (34-0, 30 KOs), the current undefeated middleweight champion, will move up in weight to face Hopkins (48-5-1, 32 KOs), a Philadelphia native, at 170 pounds on October 18. “I am preparing to fight a legend and take him down in his own backyard,” said Pavlik. “Even though I am younger, I know Hopkins is a slick veteran with a bunch of boxing tricks in his bag. I refuse to underestimate him and I know on October 18, he will be ready to fight. I am treating this as if it were a championship match with my plan being to remain undefeated and show the world that I am able to take on any fighter regardless of age, weight or record.” The undefeated Pavlik, the reigning WBC, WBO and Ring Magazine middleweight world champion, is coming off a third round knockout over the then undefeated Gary Lockett, also in Atlantic City. Known as one of the greatest middleweights of all time, Hopkins has held a world title as a middleweight or light heavyweight every year since 1995. In 2006, Hopkins moved up to light heavyweight for the first time in his career to defeat Antonio Tarver winning The Ring Magazine World Championship. Most recently, Hopkins fought undefeated Welshman Joe Calzaghe, knocking him down in the first round before losing his light heavyweight title by a narrow split decision. “Kelly Pavlik has a heart of a lion but he has no idea what he is in for on October 18,” said Hopkins. “Pavlik might be the latest thing on a fast track to fame, but I am a sure thing and will take this kid to school that night and teach him a lesson he will never forget.” Marques Colston Jersey .Y. – Mets closer Frank Francisco was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained muscle on his left side, and shortstop Ruben Tejada returned to the lineup after missing seven weeks with a leg injury. Matt Ryan Womens Jersey . After two days of 1 1/2-mile jogs, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner picked up the pace as he prepares for the Belmont Stakes on June 9, when he will attempt to become thoroughbred racings first Triple Crown champion in 34 years. Ill Have Another was accompanied by his stable pony, Lava Man, as he entered the track with steady rain falling. His ears were pricked forward as the chestnut colt galloped through the stretch before being pulled up on the turn. “He was a little hard to pull up,” Gomez said. “He felt really good. Were happy because he came out of the last race very good. He handled the track very, very well.” Trainer Doug ONeill, who returned to California after the Preakness, is sscheduled to arrive at Belmont on Sunday. Calvin Johnson Jersey. His assistant, Jack Sisterson, has been overseeing the colt this week. “He looked super,” Sisterson said. “One thing we were looking to see how he got over the track, stride-wise, and he looked fantastic. The rider said he felt good, and hes happy, so were happy.” ONeill was suspended for 45 days by the California Horse Racing Board on Thursday for exceeding the approved limit for total carbon dioxide in one of his horses. The suspension will not begin before July 1, so ONeill will be able to saddle Ill Have Another when the colt tries to join the likes of Secretariat, Citation and Affirmed as the 12th Triple Crown winner. There could be as many as 11 challengers: Alpha, Atigun, Dullahan, Five Sixteen, Guyana Star Dweej, Optimizer, Paynter, Ravelos Boy, Street Life, Union Rags and Unstoppable U. ‘ ‘ ‘
