‘Idol Live Tour 2009’ Experiences the Power of a Yamaha PM5D-EX System

BUENA PARK, Calif.⎯Season eight of American Idol (Fox) empowered viewers to share their voice in deciding America’s next singing superstar. This year’s winner was quite the surprise when Kris Allen took the number one spot, leaving Adam Lambert at number two. As with seasons’ past, the top 10 finalists are currently on tour with ‘Idol Live 2009’ that began in early July. This year, independent front of house engineer, Randy Lane, chose a Yamaha PM5D-EX system for the 50-city tour.

“Last year, the tour spent a lot of money on the console we had out with us just to keep it running and operational,â€? states Lane. “We have had no such problems this year with the Yamaha PM5D-EX, and the audio side of things has never been more consistent. With Yamaha’s integrated Steinberg Nuendo templates, I

was able to set up and record

a complete multi-track recording of a

particular show for release on iTunes. And, my entire setup is able to fit into my backpack which I carry on airplanes with ease.

“No other system can compete for audio quality, portability, ease of use, and powerful features, Lane continues. “With the sheer track count in addition to the high track count, I can mix 64-tracks of audio at 48khz and 24-bit resolution all with one MADI interface and one laptop running Nuendo 4. And, in combination of the DSP5D expander, the PM5D-EX offers great sound quality, as well as high channel counts in a very compact and rugged package which is perfect for concerts of this scale.
