On January 5th, 2017 at 7 P.M., the world’s oldest audio engineering school will pay tribute to Jack Douglas, an alumnus from the Institute’s 1969 graduating class, by opening the Jack Douglas Music Hall, located in New York’s Greenwich Village.
After graduating from the very first class at the Institute of Audio Research, Jack Douglas began his musical career at the legendary Record Plant Studio. Jack assisted on sessions with Miles Davis, The James Gang, Mountain and many others. After being given the chance to engineer the Who’s “Who’s Next”, he went on to engineer John Lennon’s “Imagine”. He engineered records for artists such as Lou Reed, The New York Dolls as well as many multi-platinum productions for Aerosmith. In 1982, Jack Douglas won Grammy® for album of the year for John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Double Fantasy”.
The Jack Douglas Music Hall is located on the second floor of IAR’s campus at 64 University Place. Students, faculty, staff and alumni will use the space to promote artists and hold live events ranging from concerts to theater readings to press conferences. The venue seats 50 plus people and hosts an 18 x 12 stage flanked with two 60-inch video screens.
