The METAlliance is presenting the first METAlliance Academy event, titled “In Session with The Guys,” on March 20 and 21 in Hollywood at the historic studios in the Capitol Records tower. For “In Session with The Guys,” attendees will record and mix Lalah Hathaway and Trev Lukather with their bands and the METAlliance founders in live sessions. By special arrangement, the METAlliance Academy will occupy Capitol Studios for the entire weekend.
Lalah Hathaway is the daughter of Donny Hathaway, one of the most influential soul artists of the ’80s. Signed to Stax Records, her 2008 album, Self-Portrait, was a Grammy Award nominee for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. Hathaway is recognized worldwide for her mastery of soul, gospel, jazz and contemporary urban balladry.
The son of legendary guitarist Steve Lukather, songwriter/guitarist Trev Lukather formed the new L.A.-based heavy pop/funk trio Intelligent Design (ID). With Berklee College of Music grad Jake Hayden (Missing Persons) on drums, Lukather and bassist Kris Martin gained early recognition for their work on Lindsey Lohan’s debut album. ID is said to be packing popular L.A. clubs such as the House of Blues, and reportedly has built a passionate and rapidly growing fan base.
METAlliance co-founders Phil Ramone and Al Schmitt will be recording in Capitol Studio A, where such artists as Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole recorded. Chuck Ainlay and Ed Cherney will be in Studio B demonstrating the fine art of the tracking session. Elliot Scheiner will be in Studio C mixing analog from his legendary multitrack masters on a large format Neve console. George Massenburg and Frank Filipetti will explore home studio mixing “in the box” in the spacious Capitol lounge.
Amenities include catered lunches, a special dinner provided by renowned Marino Ristorante.
