Penteo Surround Introduces Penteo PostPro Stereo-to-5.1 Conversion Units

Penteo PostPro(tm) Desktop unit

Desktop and Rackmount Versions for Film, TV, and Internet

Penteo(r) Surround, creator of the new industry standard for the conversion of stereo audio to optimum quality 5.1 Surround Sound, is introducing two new products: the Penteo PostPro(tm) Desktop and Penteo PostPro(tm) Rackmount units. Unlike previous attempts to create 5.1 audio, Penteo works by “panorama slicing”(tm) the stereo mix into its original left-to-right components, then re-maps those components into their respective positions in a 5.1 field. Because Penteo does not alter any phase components or levels, the resulting 5.1 mix flawlessly downmixes back to the original stereo.

While the Penteo PostPro(tm) Desktop unit features silent operation for work in quiet mix environments, the Penteo PostPro(tm) Rackmount Unit is designed for permanent installation in a machine room for post production or broadcast. Both units share the same operational functions and the same base price, with either analog, digital, or both analog and digital input/output available as options.

Penteo Surround is featured in the films: “Book of Eli,” “Inglourious Basterds” and “Watchmen” and has licensed the technology to Orban(r) for their 8585 Optimod(r), which provides premium sound processing to HDTV, radio and Internet streaming broadcasters worldwide.

“The Penteo system is based on entirely new stereo analysis,” says John Wheeler, Penteo founder and inventor of the new technology. “We believe it’s the first truly significant breakthrough in the art of converting stereo into 5.1 surround sound in the last 15 years.”

Penteo has developed a system of processes and patent-pending proprietary technology that cleanly and efficiently converts any stereo mix of music, film, and TV audio directly into high quality 5.1 surround sound. At the core of this system is the new stereo “panorama slicing” algorithm that Wheeler says creates a much cleaner, clearer, more discrete 5.1 surround experience than any other 5.1 conversion technology available today. “Most importantly, our surround masters downmix back to stereo with absolutely no sonic artifacts,” Wheeler said. “Our approach absolutely respects the vision of the original mixing engineers.”
