RME Announces Direct Windows Connectivity for OctaMic XTC

New firmware update and MADIface driver enables direct connection with Windows computers

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – October 2016… Synthax, Inc., the Americas distributor for RME, a leading manufacturer of high quality digital audio solutions, is pleased to announce an important set of updates for RME’s popular OctaMic XTC. Comprised of both a new firmware update (Version 47) and an updated MADIface driver (Version 0.9573), these updates now facilitate direct connection of the OctaMic XTC with Windows computers.

RME’s OctaMic XTC is a world-class microphone, line and instrument preamp, hi-end A/D converter, digital patchbay, monitoring device, and format converter. Prior to the new firmware and driver updates, the OctaMic XTC was compatible with Mac OS X and iOS operating systems. These new updates—available on RME’s website—add compatibility with Windows computers, effectively enabling the OctaMic XTC to work in a wider range of studio environments. The OctaMic XTC can now be used as an audio interface with 24 channels input and output under Windows, with both WDM and ASIO.

RME’s firmware version 47 adds some additional Alternate Settings for better multichannel support at higher sample rates along with RME-like ASIO performance. MADIface driver version 0.9573 adds the OctaMic XTC for use with WDM devices, full WDM configuration (stereo, multi-channel and speaker) capability, as well as ASIO buffer size settings. The OctaMic XTC can now be used without an additional audio interface as a multi-capable I/O unit on any working desk, directly via USB.

RME’s OctaMic XTC offers a wide range of features designed for today’s most demanding production. Key attributes include eight microphone and line inputs (four switchable to Hi-Z mode), and an unparalleled variety of digital connection protocols from ADAT and AES/EBU to 64-channel MADI optical. All analog and digital inputs, including up to 64 MADI channels and 8 AES/EBU audio channels, can be freely patched to any output, including the 24 channels of the Class Compliant USB 2.0 audio interface format. A full color TFT display provides easy access to the unit’s various parameters.

Mathias von Heydekampf, Managing Director at Synthax, commented on the OctaMic XTC’s firmware update and new MADIface driver. “The OctaMic XTC is an incredibly versatile production tool. With the new firmware and updated driver, Windows-based DAWs are now fully compatible with the XTC—enabling it to function in a wider range of production environments than ever before. These updates represent yet another example of RME’s commitment to its users—enabling them to maximize their investment.”

The RME OctaMic XTC carries an MSRP of $2.949. Current owners of the OctaMic XTC can obtain the new firmware and MADIface driver via the following links:
