Prominent engineer/producer Ross Hogarth has chosen the new 10DC compressor/limiter from British Audio Engineering. His first project with the 10DC was for the forthcoming album from Australia’s hit rock band Sick Puppies.

“BAE’s new 10DC is a really nice modernization of the classic Neve compression, with a more open and detailed sound,” explained Hogarth. “What is great is that now you have variable attack times that give you a lot more flexibility.”

A much sought after producer as well as engineer, Hogarth has worked with such artists as REM, Ziggy Marley, Keb Mo, Jewel, Melissa Etheridge, John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Motley Crüe, and with Van Halen for the recent hit album “A Different Kind of Truth.”

BAE’s revolutionary new 10DC is a complement to the company’s line of Class A series outboard gear. BAE is known worldwide for its flagship line of classic microphone pre-amps, faithful to the original Class A discrete audio circuit designs of the 1960s and ’70s.

“I also just finished mixing an album for The Matinee with producer Steve Berlin,” added Hogarth. “The 10DC is great for individual instruments like mandolin, banjo and acoustic guitar to get that signature sound that brings out the midrange really nicely. For the new album for Sick Puppies, I recorded and printed the compression on the tracks in the stereo drum rooms, which brought out the detail perfectly. To me, BAE has created a hybrid that has the best of the classic Neve sound, but with a modern flexibility that was always missing.”
