The Hall Effect, from Bogotá, Colombia, won the second round of Sennheiser’s Hear. I Am. contest by capturing thousands of votes from registered fans on HearIAm.com. In addition to winning the CMJ showcase slot, the band will also be awarded $10,000 in gear from Sennheiser. Mark Leger, a music fan from New Brunswick, Canada, won an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City to experience the CMJ Music Marathon with three of his friends by discovering and sharing new music on HearIAm.com.

The Hall Effect is rocketing towards a successful music career, having opened for the likes of international superstars Muse, Franz Ferdinand and Gwen Stefani. The band’s unique blend of experimental and heavy rock has earned them praise from audiences around the world, including Phil Manzanera of Roxy Music fame — who has subsequently produced their forthcoming album.

In addition to featuring showcase performances throughout the evening, Sennheiser will be offering demonstrations and discounts on a wide range of its consumer headphones, including the new “i” series of headsets made for iPhone. Sennheiser will also be participating in CMJ’s Exhibitors’ Loft and Registrants’ Lounge at New York University’s Kimmel Center, where CMJ 2010 badge holders will be able to visit Sennheiser’s booth, relax and try the company’s latest headphone and microphone offerings.

Sennheiser launched its Hear. I Am. campaign last June in conjunction with PickTheBand.com and Universal Republic Records. Since then, over 1,500 bands from North America and Latin America have submitted their music to the site, and thousands of fans have participated to discover and share new music.

When the Hear. I Am. initiative wraps up in spring of 2011, a total of five finalists will compete for a grand prize, which includes a 3-song recording with a major producer from Pick The Band, a distribution deal from Universal Republic Records and an A&R showcase at Universal Republic’s headquarters in New York. Musicians and fans from all over North America and Latin America are encouraged to participate in HearIAm. To learn more, please visit http://www.heariam.com.
