SOLID STATE LOGIC FEATURES MATRIX, X-DESK, X-RACK AND XLOGIC I/O PRODUCTS AT AES 2009

Consoles and Digital I/O Deliver SSL Sound, Functionality and Quality to Smaller Installations

NEW YORK – Solid State Logic will feature the new Matrix and X-Desk consoles along with X-Rack and XLogic Digital I/O modules at the 127th AES Convention, Booth 321 at the Jacob Javits Center from October 9 to 12. The new Matrix and X-Desk continue the legacy of the industry changing AWS 900 + SE by delivering SSL sound and quality to smaller installations, while the X-Rack brings the sonic capabilities and functionality of the SSL flagship Duality console to any studio. XLogic I/O units provide extremely reliable and cost effective pathways to DAW systems. Shown for the first time in the U.S. at AES is the groundbreaking XLogic MX4 PCIe audio I/O and processing card and DSP powered software mixer.

“We are very excited by the continued,

trend-setting technical innovations our engineering staff has developed for all levels of the industry, says Piers Plaskitt, CEO of SSL, Inc. “SSL has always defined the high end of the industry and now is defining creative capture on all levels from the superstar in a major recording studio to the beginning performer/composer creating in a home environment on a Mac or PC and everything in between.

Matrix:
Matrix is a SuperAnalogue™ 16 channel, 40 input, line level mixing console with inbuilt signal router and multi-layer digital workstation control of up to four DAWs simultaneously. Matrix is ideal for any smaller studio installation where the focus is on state-of-the-art audio production and capture. The internal Matrix SuperAnalogue™ router manages the sends and returns of up to 16 outboard processor units along with the assignment of the console’s channel strip insert points. Using the Insert Matrix control panel software, any combination of outboard gear can be rapidly inserted into any console channel, essentially giving the engineer the ability to run outboard as ‘analogue plug-ins’ within a DAW. Matrix features direct connect to up to four X-Rack units and will store both Matrix and X-Rack setting data through Total Recall™.

X-Desk:
X-Desk is an innovative live level console that combines a 16 channel SSL SuperAnalogue summing mixer with a compact analogue audio hub, meeting the demand for a world class, yet compact SSL mixing desk. Small enough to be easily transported, X-Desk fulfills all the essentials of the audio mixing process, with typical SSL attention to detail and depth, including smooth 100mm faders, comprehensive artist & studio monitoring with Dim & Cut buttons, Stereo and Mono Aux sends, channel and Master Bus Inserts and accurate bar graph level metering. Up to eight X-Desks or X-Desk & X-Rack combinations can be cascaded via D-Sub connection to expand to a maximum of 160 inputs on mixdown.

X-Rack:
X-Rack is a modular rack system with TotalRecall™ that employs the same circuit design found in SSL’s flagship Duality console. Each X-Rack chassis holds up to eight modules in any configuration with ten different modules available. Configurations include building a stunning sounding SuperAnalogue front end for any recording system (perfect for both Matrix and X-Desk) offering two different flavors of mic pre (SuperAnalogue and VHD), EQ, transparent dynamics and a powerful master section. The X-Rack can also be configured as an SSL summing mixer with an ultra-pure analogue mix buss, using two different line input modules to achieve high channel counts or to combine additional sources during mixdown through the legendary Stereo Bus Compressor. X-Rack features the very highest quality analogue recording and summing path and is the perfect configurable solution for studio or live applications.
XLogic I/O Workstation Interface Solutions
Shown for the first time in the U.S. at AES is the groundbreaking XLogic MX4 audio I/O and processing card for the PC range of computers. The XLogic MX4 delivers outstanding performance to demanding ‘inside the box’ users through a 128 channel MADI digital audio interface, a powerful multi-client SSL software mixer and DSP powered SSL processing plug-ins. The 128 channel MADI I/O can be combined with SSL Alpha-Link audio format converters, connected directly to suitably equipped consoles, or integrated with Broadcast Routers to deliver a very high channel count alongside uncompromising audio quality.

The XLogic Alpha-Link Audio I/O range is a powerful yet cost effective family of fully featured multi-channel audio converters for studio, live and broadcast applications. The three different models each feature SSL’s high quality 24-channel AD/DA converter circuitry. All Alpha-Link units can be used as standalone format converters, but used in combination with a MADI Xtreme, they provide a powerful, highly flexible I/O solution for native PC-based audio workstations. Available models include XLogic Alpha-Link MADI SX for professional level MADI to AES / EBU with A/D and D/A converters and the XLogic Alpha-Link MADI AX for professional level MADI to ADAT with A/D and D/A converters. Each MADI unit offers up to 64 MADI inputs and outputs.
The XLogic Delta Link MADI HD is the quintessential link to Pro Tools|HD® for studio, live and broadcast applications. Any Multichannel Audio Digital Interface audio equipment, including routers, digital mixing consoles and converters, can now be directly interfaced with the Pro Tools|HD® system providing simplified interconnectivity with significant cost reductions. A single Delta Link MADI HD can take the place of up to four Digi 192® Digital I/O’s, delivering dual feeds of 64 channels of digital audio interconnection from a single hardware interface.

XLogix MadiXtreme 64, with one MADI connector, and MadiXtreme 128, with two MADI connectors, PCIe cards are the ideal interface for the SSL Alpha-Link MADI AX or SSL Alpha-Link MADI SX units. The cards are also the perfect partners for MADI equipped consoles, live recording, installations and broadcast servers.

Completing SSLs product line up at AES will be Duende, the DSP Powered SSL plug-in platform. Duende will be shown running the new V3 software version and the superb new X-Verb, the plug-in that delivers hardware quality reverb processing.
