SOUND DEVICES DEBUTS FIRMWARE UPDATE 1.75 FOR 788T DIGITAL RECORDER AT IBC 2009

AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS — Sound Devices announces its latest 1.75 firmware update for its best-selling 788T Digital Recorder at this year’s IBC show (Stand 8.E72). This new release introduces support for its new CL-2 Remote Control accessory. It also provides several new features and upgrades.

The CL-2 Remote Fader, a remote control and fader accessory for the 788T can attach directly to a microphone boom pole or be handheld, and requires firmware revision 1.75 or greater to operate. Connecting to the 788T’s proprietary C.Link port (Control Link), the CL-2 offers a single, 30mm fader which can be programmed to control any input or track on the 788T. There are also two, two-position switches on the remote control unit that can be programmed to operate several critical functions on the 788T, including remote record activation. The CL-2 is also powered by the C.Link port.

“Through regular firmware updates we

are able to provide new capabilities to our 788T digital recorder, says Jon Tatooles, managing director for Sound Devices. “This is another example of Sound Devices’ response to working professionals using our products. We continue to improve our product lines based on real-world information our customers share with us.

The latest 1.75 firmware update extends the capabilities of Sound Devices best-selling 788T multi-track recorder. It now has a faster power on (boot up) and ready to record features, even with thousands of files on media. The latest upgrade also features a new Input Fader Range Menu, which allows the user to select the dB range of the mixer fader. Three options are available including Wide (off to +15 dB), Narrow (-15 to +15 dB) and Fade Only (off to 0 dB). Sound Devices 1.75 firmware upgrade also enables up to +15 dB of gain selectable on mix track levels. This is selectable in the LEVELS view in the Track Setup Menu which is accessed by pressing the INPUT button.

This firmware release improves overall reliability of the unit and enables bEXT Originator Date to be changed to the format YYYY-MM-DD, so files are imported correctly into Sony’s Vegas as Broadcast Wave files. With the latest upgrade, the 788T also now remembers current edited routing after a power cycle.

Upgrading from firmware version 1.71 to version 1.75 can change the track-to-media routings in the track setup window. It is highly recommend that factory settings are loaded after upgrading.
