SOUND TREKKER STUDIOS RELIES ON AVIOM FOR MOBILE MONITORING SYSTEM

World Class Mobile Recording Service Streamlines Audio Capture with Aviom

LINSENGERICHT, GERMANY, MARCH 23, 2009 – When Sound Trekker Studios records live remote sessions with multi-platinum artists such as Joss Stone, an Aviom Pro16® system (Musikmesse/Prolight+Sound Hall 8, Stand J41) provides the isolated headphone monitoring to help complete the job. An Aviom AN-16/i Input Module, an A-16D Pro A-Net Distributor, and multiple A-16II Personal Mixers together with a Solid State Logic AWS 900+ console and Pro Tools HD-4 DAW round out the equipment roster for this world-class studio on the go.

This portable studio was designed to be set up in practically any location. It allows the artist and producer to record where they feel most comfortable while achieving the same high-quality recordings one would get from working in a typical recording studio. When working on projects like the Joss Stone sessions, time and audio quality are of the utmost importance. The Sound Trekker Studios crew has found that using the Aviom Pro16 system lightens the workload during setup as well as making the recording process easier.

“During her tour, Joss Stone brought her 10-piece band with backing vocalists into a 200-year old mill near Regensburg, Germany, to record a few songs live,” says Marco Breidenbach, Sound Trekker Studio’s owner/engineer. “I had been asked to do the gig together with engineer and friend Hans-Martin Buff. We were given only two days to do the project, so the challenge was to give each musician an individual headphone mix and, at the same time, concentrate on capturing the best possible sound. I knew that in order to get all that achieved, I had to bring an Aviom system to the table.”

Sixteen separate outputs from the Pro Tools DAW go straight into the Aviom AN-16/i Input Module. From there the resulting A-Net digital audio signal is passed to an Aviom A-16D Pro Distributor that provides up to nine parallel outputs, eight of which are powered, to Personal Mixers, eliminating the need to daisy chain and simplifying setup. The A-16II Personal Mixers, give each artist control over channel volume, grouping, pan, stereo spread, and master volume and tone for his or her headphone mix.

“The Joss Stone project gave me the opportunity to try an Aviom system and I must say that the experience was very rewarding,” Breidenbach explains. “The Aviom system is simply great for both the engineer and the performing artists using it. The Personal Mixers gave each performer the chance to get the exact mix they needed to hear and the end performance was simply better as a result. On the engineering side, once we were set, we no longer had to worry about the multiple monitor mixes so we could put all our attention into the recording. Since then Aviom has become a staple in my recording setup.”
