At this year’s Synthplex 2022 music festival in Burbank, CA, October 27- 30, synth pioneer Patrick Gleeson and arts technologist KamranV will present two sessions exploring quadraphonic composing and recording.

Session: Elemental: Composing in Quad with Patrick Gleeson
An interactive workshop about composing in digital media, especially the opportunities and challenges of Surround Sound. Audience participation is welcome. Date/Time: Saturday, Oct. 29th 1:00pm

Session: Quadraphonic Recording Issues and Solutions
Patrick Gleeson and producer KamranV, who developed the quad format QUARK, will give a brief overview of quad performance options and related issues, with an emphasis on QUARK. Date/Time: Saturday, Oct. 29th 1:00pm

KamranV: Arts Technologist
Arts Technologist KamranV builds bridges between the real and the ideal. Current interests include holograms, automation, and quadraphonic music. Recent explorations include developing the PHONOCUT home vinyl recorder, reimagining Moogfest, co-creating the SONOS studio and producing Suzanne Ciani’s LIVE Quadraphonic, the first quadraphonic vinyl release in over 30 years.
KamranV has received two National Endowment for the Arts Media Arts grants and his immersive installations have had special event showings at LACMA and MOMA PS1.

Patrick Gleeson: Electronic Music Pioneer
Patrick Gleeson is an electronic music pioneer who began his career at the Mills College Tape Center in the late sixties.
Career highlights:
• Introduced synthesizers to jazz in 1971 when he began recording and touring with Herbie Hancock’s Mwandishi Band. Scored many network series and feature films.
• Headed the synthesist team that created the electronic score for Francis Coppola’s “Apocalypse Now.”
• Engineered, performed on and/or produced rock, funk, jazz and contemporary classical albums at his San Francisco Different Fur Studios, among them Devo’s “Are We Not Men?,” Brian Eno and David Byrne’s “My Life in the Bush of Ghosts,” Lenny White’s “Venusian Summer,” and “Plague Dogs,” a collaboration with The Kronos Quartet.
