Waves and AudioFanzine Announce Winners of CLA Song Competition

— Elle and The Fury win top prize: having a song mixed by Chris Lord-Alge (CLA), one of today’s
most in-demand mix engineers —

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL, July 25, 2012 — Waves Audio, the industry-leading developer of professional audio digital signal processing technologies, and AudioFanzine, an online magazine catering to musicians as well as sound engineers, home-studio recording enthusiasts, and audio engineers, have announced the winners of the 2012 CLA Song Competition. Rock quintet Elle and The Fury took top honors, winning them a mix from multi-GRAMMY® Award-winner Chris Lord-Alge (CLA), one of today’s most in-demand mix engineers. Lord-Alge’s credits include such acts as Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band and Daughtry, to name only a few.

The band stated, “We were very excited to win and get the chance to work with Chris. We didn’t give him any direction; we knew he’d make it sound great. We printed the effects we wanted to keep, and then just let him do his thing. It’s amazing how he can identify the most important elements of the song and make them speak. We were very impressed by the final mix, which sounds big, wide and open. He managed to make each track stand out and blend at the same time. Now, as we finish up our EP, the challenge will be to make the rest of the tracks stand up to Chris’s mix. This is obviously a big boost for our band, as we look to reach more people.”

For their part, Elle and The Fury are longtime Waves users. They added, “The Renaissance Maxx bundle was the first set of third-party plugins we bought after getting Pro Tools at our home studio. Now we use the SSL 4000 Collection, CLA Classic Compressors and Renaissance Vox on everything.”

Lord-Alge stated, “The CLA Song Competition was a fun avenue for me to be an A&R guy. Choosing the three finalists was a very hard decision. Picking from all those songs was a daunting task, but very exciting. After listening to all the entrants a few times, Elle & The Fury’s winning song ‘F*** You’ was a standout, and the production and the performance really worked for me. The song itself is what grabbed me; the power of the story and Elle’s delivery are what sold me. The most impressive part was the groove and the balance of the track and the vocals. It was very punchy and clear, and stood out from the pack. ‘F*** You’ is a fresh and current track that I know will help get them on their way; I look forward to hearing more songs from them. I salute Waves and their staff for organizing this great opportunity.”
