Waves Introduces MaxxSpeech® Technology

— MaxxSpeech® enhances the performance of Automatic Speech Recognition engines —

TEL AVIV, ISRAEL, June 20, 2013 — The Consumer Electronics Division of Waves, the industry leader in professional audio digital signal processing and recipient of a Technical GRAMMY® award, unveils its new MaxxSpeech® technology. MaxxSpeech revolutionizes the use of automatic speech recognition (ASR) on laptops and desktop computers, by significantly increasing command acceptance and reducing the word error rate, for flawless hands-free voice-controlled communication between users and their devices.

MaxxSpeech is powered by three primary technologies:

MaxxEC™ Stereo Echo Canceller effectively filters out any and all sounds transmitted from the computer’s speakers, thereby providing a clear voice input to be correctly identified by the ASR engine. With MaxxEC Stereo, users can listen to music, watch movies and play games, while simultaneously communicating with their devices and running commands in real-time via ASR.
DeBabble™ Diffused Noise Attenuation leverages Waves’ renowned noise reduction and source localization technologies to provide a purer, more accurate signal, so the ASR engine can perform effectively in environments with large amounts of diffused noise.
MaxxBeam™ Microphone-Array Noise Suppression uses two microphones to create a virtual beam, and then differentiates between signals inside the beam and signals outside of it, suppressing stationary and non-stationary noise from outside the beam, to deliver an optimized input signal to the ASR engine.

Tomer Elbaz, Executive Vice President, Waves Consumer Division, stated, “ASR is becoming an important part of how we interact with our devices. MaxxSpeech enhances ASR performances and helps to overcome significant challenges in the way of future consumer devices and their designs. Research and development were conducted using real-life scenarios in real-life environments, to understand and ultimately serve end-user needs. This is an important development for Waves and for the consumer electronics market.”
