VALLEY STREAM, N.Y., July 18, 2017 – As the saying goes, “Father knows best.” This could not be any truer than for Psycho Hill guitarist Johnny Iadevaio, whose band’s debut four-track EP “Wasted Youth” was recently produced, engineered, and mixed by his father at Front Row Recording in Valley Stream, N.Y. The EP, which was released digitally July 14, includes the title track as a single, and a music video for the single “Reject”.

“Even though Johnny is my son, I push him much harder than any other band/musician I’ve worked with,” said John Iadevaio, founder and owner of Front Row Recording. “I want him and his band Psycho Hill to have the best, and it’s my job as the producer, mixer, and engineer to get nothing less than 100 percent out of them. Sometimes it can be very frustrating, but nothing comes easy. Hard work always pays off.”

The EP was recorded on a Toft ATB16 console at Front Row Recording. “With the technology today, if you focus super hard during the writing, pre-production, and then tracking it properly, you can get amazing results mixing in the box,” Iadevaio explained. “I can’t stress enough that preparation is everything. When I’m working with a band in pre-production, I’m always hearing the finished product in my head. I’m a bit of a perfectionist and you will hear that through Psycho Hill and any past and future releases under my belt.”

Long Island-based quartet Psycho Hill is Tim Curtin (vocals), Johnny Iadevaio (guitar), Tyler Boerckel (drums), and Rick Devita (bass). They are currently working on booking a U.S. tour.

“It all starts with a solid foundation,” Iadevaio continued. “Each song on the EP was mapped out and rehearsed repeatedly with a click track until it felt right and ready to record. Tyler (Boerckel) did an awesome job while we were tracking, making my job editing the drums a simple task by making just a few minor adjustments throughout the EP. Then we were able to layer all our guitars and bass on top of something that’s solid and has a great feel. Tim (Curtain) and I spent a lot of time together working on the lyrics and melodies of each song. Word by word, line-by-line until it was right. Tim is very creative in the studio and I’m looking forward to working with him again on a full length record sometime next year.”

Johnny Iadevaio, formally of the critically praised band Eternity Fallen, said that growing up around the business has definitely been a huge help with his career decisions and making the right choices. “Anybody who is in the music industry will tell you it is very hard to ‘make it’,” Iadevaio said. “Luckily I have a family of musicians and who have lived this lifestyle. They have helped me greatly and I wouldn’t be able to push as hard as I do without the motivation and advice from my pops. I know one day all the hard work and dedication will be for something special.”

Long-time musician and Valley Stream native John Iadevaio (Wicked Maraya) started his music career when he was just 12 years old. After many years of honing his craft as a heavy metal musician, Iadevaio and his Wicked Maraya band mates were fortunate enough to land a recording contract with legendary heavy metal record label, Mausoleum Records. In 1993, Iadevaio and Wicked Maraya entered the recording studio with producer/engineer Jim Morris (Iced Earth, Death, Crimson Glory). It was then that Iadevaio realized he had the passion and desire to be on the opposite side of the glass in a recording studio.

“In 2003, I began working with Pro Tools recording and producing my own music, along with producing local Long Island alternative/rock and metal bands,” Iadevaio explained. “This led to a demand for me to open my personal recording studio…and Front Row Recording was born.”

Front Row Recording currently utilizes Pro Tools 12 HD Native core system, Toft ATB16 Analog Console with Vintage 80 Channel EQ, Dell Precision T3500 (Avid approved) Quad Core PC 24g Ram, Digidesign (Avid) 192 AD/DA Converter, and Glyph professional audio hard drives. For a full equipment list, visit the Front Row Recording website.

“As Johnny mentioned, we come from a family of musicians and engineers,” the elder Iadevaio continued. “Psycho Hill’s song, ‘Wasted Youth’, was also mastered by my cousin Daniel Malsch, who owns Soundmine Recording Studio in Pennsylvania. It’s been awesome seeing them grow from the writing stage through pre-production and to actually tracking the EP. They are total pros in the studio and great things are to come with the release of their debut EP.”

Front Row Recording specializes in producing and engineering bands in the Alternative/Rock and Heavy Metal genres, and that’s why Psycho Hill, beyond Iadevaio’s son being a band member, was a perfect fit. “We are now offering bands and artists the opportunity to shoot a professionally directed HD music video on an indie budget,” continued Iadevaio, who also directed Psycho Hill’s video for the single “Reject.”

Iadevaio concluded, “It’s not work if you love what you do. Working with my son and other up-and-coming bands could not be more satisfying for me both as a musician and an engineer/producer.”
