Anton Fig Drums With Ultrasone

NEW YORK: Anton Fig, one of modern music‘s most-heard drummers, has just changed how he hears his drums in the studio. The influential rhythm master known for his nightly appearances on the “Late Show with David Letterman” and recordings with Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Madonna and far beyond now hits the studio with the superior safety and full frequency response of ULTRASONE HFI-550 headphones.

“I need to use headphones a lot,” Fig says. “When you‘re recording, it‘s critically important to get the best possible sound in your headphones so you can play the drums with total confidence. As soon as I started using the ULTRASONE HFI-550 headphones on sessions, I was very impressed — they really sound great.”

Fig points to the tight seal of the ULTRASONE HFI-550‘s closed headphone design, and natural surround sound of ULTRASONE‘s patented S-Logic™ technology, as strong assets for drummers who want to protect their hearing and hear the full sonic picture, both live and in the studio. In addition, the HFI-550 features a 50mm driver for enhanced bass response which makes them particularly well-suited for the needs of drummers, bassists and DJ‘s.

“I like my headphones to fit tightly for starters, and the ULTRASONE HFI-550s have a good, snug fit that helps to control the outside sound without eliminating it entirely,” says Fig. “They sound nice and clear with a full response across the frequency spectrum, but without the excessive top end that can kill your ears or excessive bottom that can make things unclear. Besides giving you a better picture of the audio, the clarity of the ULTRASONEs means you can turn down the overall volume of your mix, which is definitely better for your ears.”

Extreme accuracy and significantly increased safety levels are hallmarks of ULTRASONE headphones, for musicians and audio professionals who require the ultimate personal solution for mixing, mastering, tracking and reference applications. ULTRASONE‘s S-Logic™ technology reduces sound pressure to the eardrums by 40%, and thanks to its patented ULE (Ultra Low Emissions) technology, all ULTRASONE products have lower magnetic field emissions than any other headphones, reducing electromagnetic field radiation – an effect commonly associated with cell phone use, for example – by up to 98%.

In addition to traditional studio dates, Fig has been employing the ULTRASONEs for remote recording dates enabled by the eSession online collaboration platform, as well as mixing and editing tracks on his portable Pro Tools system. “eSession is a nice alternative for recording when you can‘t physically be with the other musicians, and the right headphones are a crucial link in the signal path for these projects,” says Fig. “If I‘m home editing my performances late at night, that‘s another time when it‘s preferable to be on the ULTRASONEs. They‘re clear and powerful-sounding, with a big dynamic range, which is what I demand from anything that I listen on.”

For a man whose world-class drumming skills have appropriately landed him one of the best jobs on the planet, the ULTRASONE HFI-550 headphones have made making music even better. “You can trust the sound of ULTRASONEs,” Anton Fig says. “When you trust what you hear, you can play more relaxed. And when you can play more relaxed, that leads to all kinds of good things.”
