Billy Gilman Records at Power Station New England

Billy Gilman, runner-up on Season 11 of NBC’s The Voice USA, recorded at Power Station New England his new single “Get It Got It Good”, his first pop music release since his impressive appearance on The Voice. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dTcndugkDk

Gilman also recorded two more songs with chief engineer Evan Bakke. All three were tracked live in the massive Studio A, which features the signature Power Station 35-foot dome, and mixed in Control room A on the immaculately restored Neve 8068 MkII console. Mastering was by Huntley Miller at HM Mastering.

Gilman remarked, “Power Station New England is more than a studio to me. I’ve been professionally recording for more than half my life and there is something magical about that studio. Plus I found my voice there, so to say. I recorded music that finally was ME in those rooms. Can’t wait to get back in there soon!”

Gilman’s band, which flew in from various parts of the country, includes drummer Steve Goold (Sara Bareilles, Ben Rector), bassist Ian Allison (Eric Hutchinson, Gavin Degraw), guitarist Jasper Nephew (Owl City), and keyboardist Elliot Blaufus (Eric Hutchinson, Kelly Clarkson).

“Billy’s voice is effortlessly powerful and every note is pitch perfect,” says engineer Evan Bakke. “I used our Neve console’s 31102 EQ, our UA Blue Stripe 1176 compressor, and a Pultec EQP-1A3 on his vocal.”

Starting as a young country artist, Gilman is well known for his debut single “One Voice”, a top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and a top 20 hit on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in 2000. Only eleven years old at the time, he became the youngest artist to ever have a top 40 single on the country chart. Gilman has released five albums, including three for Epic Nashville. Gilman auditioned for season 11 of the US edition of The Voice, and competed as part of Team Adam Levine, finishing as runner-up for the season.
