SAE Institute Atlanta Lab Instructor Justin “Breeze” Sebring handled the mixing duties on tracks for the new album by BET Award-winner and RCA recording artist Yung Joc, who will be featured in the new season of VH1’s “Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta”. Sebring also produced two songs on the album, which is scheduled to be released in the fall of 2014.
“Fall is going to be a really busy time of year for me,” says Sebring, who’s the owner of BreezeMixedIt.com and a principal in the production company Damies and Runnies. “Along with the Yung Joc album coming out, I’ll also be finishing up production and remixing on Raheem the Dream’s 1998 hit track ‘Most Beautiful Girl’ as well as production and songwriting with Damies and Runnies for albums by r&b singer Anthony Hamilton and Jamaican pop star Kris Kelli. It’s all very exciting stuff, and I’ll be sharing the details of the projects with my students at SAE Atlanta.”
Sebring attended Oologah High School in Oologah, Oklahoma. He developed his interest in audio production after he graduated in 1998 and was an early adopter of Pro Tools digital audio workstation software. Sebring moved to Atlanta in 2007 to attend Art School of Atlanta, from which he graduated in 2011 with a BA in Audio Engineering and Production. After a series of jobs in Atlanta studios as an intern and full-time engineer, Sebring eventually landed at Hot Beats Studios, where he’s currently their on-call mixing engineer and Enkore Studios, where he’s head engineer.
In 2012, Sebring and his partners at Damies and Runnies created the score and sound design for ESPN’s 30 for 30 film “Benji”, which was a Best of the Best winner at Tribeca Film Festival. He also began working on a string of projects for producer/songwriter Rico Love, platinum-selling rapper Mase, “The Voice” star Mathai, Epic Records recording artist Rocko, and Columbia Records rapper Juicy J, who has recorded/collaborated with Katy Perry.
“I began working as a lab instructor at SAE Atlanta in November ’13, and I love the school’s curriculum,” says Sebring, who’s currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Entertainment Business at Full Sail University. “It gives students confidence, know-how, and a real life environment so they can be employment-ready once they graduate. I’ve taught at other audio technology schools and SAE’s dedication to new technology, programs, and equipment is second to none.”
As far as advice is concerned, Sebring recommends that SAE students and eventual graduates give it their all.
“Even though you’ve had great training at SAE, I tell students that it’s just the beginning of a lifetime of continuous learning and education to master your craft,” says Sebring. “Never do the minimum and always go above and beyond on your projects and the projects of your clients. By combining a constant quest for knowledge with a commitment to delivering excellent work, your skills will always be in demand.”
