Student Tom Magee explores the new online guitar classes offered by Berkeemusic.com

Berkleemusic.com, the online extension school of Berklee College of Music, has announced the addition of five new online guitar courses and five new college-credit guitar certificate programs to their online curriculum.
New courses include Guitar Scales 101, Guitar Chords 101 and Blues Guitar Workshop. In addition, two new online courses emphasize pro audio and production: Amps, Effects, and Getting Your Guitar Sound and Recording and Producing for Guitarists. Enrollment for the Spring semester, which begins April 1, ends March 31, 2005.
The online guitar courses are based on the same curriculum that is taught on the physical campus but incorporate a variety of new technologies developed specifically for guitar instruction in the online medium. Students have direct communication with their instructors thorough weekly scheduled chats, which also allow for lesson discussion between classmates. Additionally, students upload their assignments as MP3 files to their instructor for personalized review. “We made sure that these new courses would be of the same high quality as that of the brick-and-mortar guitar courses for which Berklee is so well known,” explained Debbie Cavalier, Dean of Continuing Education at Berklee.
All online courses and programs are accredited by NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges), the same institution that accredits Berklee College of Music.
