The Producers & Engineers Wing of The Recording Academy designated JBL Professional an official audio partner in the “Speakers and Audio Home Theater Systems” category. The partnership coincides with JBL’s 60th anniversary. As part of this joint effort, regional chapters of The Recording Academy are presenting a series of educational events. JBL is also hosting demonstrations of new loudspeaker technologies.

“Part of the Producers & Engineers Wing’s mission is to ensure that the highest audio standards are met and made available to both professionals and consumers,” notes P&E Wing Executive Director Maureen Droney. “We are proud to partner with JBL Professional, a company that shares our goal of delivering superior sound quality from the studio to the home. JBL’s commitment is evident in every step of their manufacturing process, as well as in their research, design and the rigorous testing of their products. We congratulate them on their 60 years of dedication to excellence.”

The P&E Wing’s first JBL-sponsored event took place May 9 at The Village Recording Studios in Los Angeles. This “In the Mix” event informed attendees about P&E Wing activities and initiatives. Panelists included Maureen Droney, Los Angeles Chapter P&E Wing Committee Chair Mike Clink, The Village Studios CEO Jeff Greenberg and JBL Professional’s Director of Recording and Broadcast Marketing Peter Chaikin, who invited attendees to enjoy an immersive demonstration of the JBL Professional LSR series studio monitors. P&E Wing Leadership members Ed Cherney (steering committee) and Nathaniel Kunkel (advisory council) shared some of their current surround music projects, facilitating a discussion on mixing processes as well as studio tools, tips and tricks.

More than 150 of the hottest producers, engineers, remixers, manufacturers, technologists and other related creative and technical professionals—along with songwriters, composers, arrangers and artists—were in attendance. Guests included Brooks Arthur, Roy Thomas Baker, BT, Moogie Canazio and John Fields, who were treated to an insider’s look at one of the most historically relevant and eternally hip studios, while reconnecting with their local recording community.

“It was fantastic to have this opportunity to spend quality time with the people who use our products,” commented Peter Chaikin. “Guests were able to hear the latest surround mixes from some incredible talent and network in a relaxed environment. We look forward to working with the P&E Wing in the months to come and evolving this relationship to help advance the art of sound and music recording.”
