Long Beach, CA (November 20, 2015)—Covering 3,500 people in an in-the-round format is never easy—and doing so while making up the speaker configuration on the fly is even harder. That’s the situation that DB Production Services of Loveland, CO, a full video, lighting, and sound production provider, faced recently when it provided audio for the annual Alliance Council meeting of The Alliance, a Christ-based global movement, in Long Beach, CA.
The event, which included diverse musical elements like a praise band, semi-classical music with large mixed-voice choirs, and gospel sermons, had an added, unexpected challenge. “Because of an on-site design change to the stage from our client,” said DB Production Services owner Dan Bashor, “we were unable to use our pre-designed speaker system layout.
The new game plan meant relocating four of powered line arrays to address the longest seating throws, but that wasn’t sufficient, so Bashor used RCF HDL20-As and HDL10s that he had brought along. “We deployed 16 HDL20-As—some flown under lighting trusses and some directly on the floor in front of the stage for nearfield coverage—and we used the HDL10-As for fill for the FOH control area, which was located in a less-than-perfect-hearing area,” he said. Ultimately, despite unexpected changes, everything panned out, he reported: “After proper equalization and time alignment, the system worked flawlessly around all four sides of the stage.”
