Welcome to 1979 Marks 10 Years with Direct-to-Disc Session

Ten artists will perform live at the studio on June 2 for 10-song vinyl compilation.

Nashville, TN (May 17, 2018)—Over the past ten years, Welcome to 1979 has become part of Nashville’s rich musical community. Setting up shop in a former record-pressing plant in West Nashville in 2008, owners Chris and Yoli Mara made the space their own, setting up a tape machine restoration company, a vinyl-mastering suite, an electroplating facility and, most recently, a slide.

Now the studio is celebrating its 10-year anniversary by inviting 10 acts who have previously worked at 1979 to come back for a one-time-only live direct-to-disc recording.

The event will be held June 2, 2018, from 8 p.m. to midnight at Welcome to 1979 and is free and open to the public. (Facebook event link.)

At the session, audio will be recorded to a lacquer disc in real time while artists are performing, with no redos, edits or punch-ins. Two discs will be cut—one for each side of the vinyl release. Each artist or group, set up to perform in various locations around the studio, will perform one song each for the album.

Staff at Welcome to 1979 will pass out tickets at the door, redeemable for one free vinyl record. Kindercore Vinyl will be pressing a batch of 450 translucent gold records, available for pickup at Welcome to 1979 a few weeks after the event. There will be one golden ticket stashed in a record, redeemable for a free day of studio time.
