Earthworks SR40V High Definition Vocal Microphone

Earthworks in Milford, N.H., is now shipping the SR40V High Definition Vocal Microphone ($999 MAP). The SR40V is a 9mm backplate electret condenser-type transducer with a diaphragm measuring 5 microns; it has a hypercardioid polar pattern, a stated frequency response of 30 to 40k Hz, and promises fast transient response.

The SR40V also offers Earthworks’ True Live Sound (TLS) technology, promising extreme accuracy in the time domain, which is essential for harmonics to be reproduced faithfully without smearing or distortion. The company states that the SR40V re-creates True Live Sound with its circuitry by combining flat, extended frequency response with quick impulse response, and that the microphone’s circuitry is handcrafted to match each capsule for optimum performance.

Earthworks states that the SR40V has a self-noise rating of 22dB SPL (A weighted), a sensitivity rating of 10 mV/Pa (-40 dBV/Pa), and a Peak Acoustic Output rating of 145 dB SPL. It combines extremely low handling noise with robust performance and output capability.
