Focusrite ISA 828

Focusrite has unveiled the ISA 828 8-channel microphone preamplifier, featuring eight original ISA transformer-based preamps in a single 2U rackmount chassis. The eight preamps feature the same vintage microphone preamp design as the original ISA 110 module from Focusrite’s Forte console, including the original Lundahl L1538 transformer.

The preamps are complemented by eight line inputs, four instrument inputs and an optional 8-channel 192kHz A/D converter seated within Focusrite’s custom analog circuitry. The unit’s 25-pin D-Type connectors allow the ISA 828 to integrate with Pro Tools HD and other hard disk recorders and mixers.

The microphone input stage includes a variable impedance circuit, allowing the user to switch between four carefully selected input impedance settings. The original ISA 110 setting is supplemented by three additional impedance settings for matching or mismatching the preamp with any microphone.

The four front panel instrument inputs also feature high- and low-impedance options as a DI solution. Insert switches are featured on every channel, allowing the user to perform extra processing between the preamp and converter. Vintage design highpass filters are also provided on every channel.

Every channel features a 6-segment LED input meter with precise meter trim. The meter displays and meter-trim calibrations use the same reference points as Digidesign’s HD system for accurate input metering, independent of the DAW.
