APEX APEX381
July 2005—The APEX381 ($109) dynamic mic from Apex Electronics (www.apexelectronics.com) uses a neodymium magnet and aluminum alloy voicecoil to yield high output. A tight cardioid pattern maximizes gain before feedback, and an internal double shock-mount system significantly reduces handling noise. The APEX381 has a leather-feel finish for positive grip. Frequency response is 50 to 18k Hz with a max SPL of 140 dB; impedance is 300 ohms.
APEX APEX115
July 2005—Compact size and light weight make the APEX115 ($159) hypercardioid condenser a smart choice for situations where high performance is required from an unobtrusive mic. The mic requires phantom power to operate (48V DC). Frequency response is 70 to 19k Hz with an S/N ratio of 65 dB.
APEX MODEL 435
March 2005—The Apex Model 435 is a 1-inch-diaphragm, single-pattern condenser that offers the same performance as the company’s multipattern Model 460 but in a cardioid-only design. The 435 has a relatively compact 6-inch-long brass body with anodized finish and features an internal –6dB/100Hz LF roll-off switch for handling rumble or breath noise. It ships with an Apex IMC-3 “cat’s cradle” shock-mount.
APEX MODEL 410
August 2003—New from Apex Electronics is the Model 410 ($249,
including cat’s cradle shock-mount, wind sock and flight case). This
cardioid-pattern condenser features switchable -6dB, 100Hz
low-frequency cut-off and a 1-inch diameter capsule. Frequency response
is 40 to 19k Hz, maximum SPL is 135 dB (1 kHz @ 0.5% THD), input
sensitivity is -37 dB @ 1 kHz, and signal-to-noise ratio is better than
73 dB. A -10dB output pad switch is included.
APEX 450
July 2001—Apex 450 Tube Condenser Microphone ($899) features nine selectable polar patterns, and its high-SPL handling capability (125 dB) makes it a good choice for live sound reinforcement or live recording, too. Other amenities include an aluminum flight case, windsock, a 7-pin XLR cable, external power supply, heavy-duty, “cat’s cradle”-style shock-mount assembly, and a 1-inch, dual-diaphragm, gold-sputtered capsule.
