VISIONEERING CONNECT 4×4 AES PATCHBAY: Visioneering Connect has come up with the ultimate solution to the problem of interfacing digital audio devices that employ eight channels of AES I/O on a single D-25 connector, such as Euphonix, Pro Tools|HD, Mackie and others. We have developed a four-row patchbay that normals two devices to each other’s respective inputs/outputs with a single 8-pair AES cable — with D-25 connectors on both ends — between the gear and the patchbay. No splitting or joining of cables and no more bulky breakout cables are required. Audio Accessories’ nickel-plated TT jacks are arranged 48 across on a 3RU chassis. Model VDC-5018W-448D-4×4 comes complete with 24 cables (custom lengths available) for less than $3,800. NAB Booth: C 3651.

VISIONEERING CONNECT AES3ID8: Visioneering Connect has developed yet another indispensable product aimed at the broadcast market where many devices adopt the 75-ohm AES-ID format for digital audio. Facilities typically use a 75-ohm “video” patchbay for interfacing the digital audio signals. What then to do with the many devices that employ eight pairs of 110-ohm AES-3 audio signals on a single D-25 connector? The usual “fix” is to hang eight expensive baluns on an expensive breakout cable in a lump in the back of the rack. The AES3ID8 is a 1RU rack-mount unit with eight BNC connectors mating with a D-25 connector. We use the highest-quality transformers available, and meet 192kHz specs. The $295 price includes a D-25-to-D-25 interface cable. NAB Booth: C 3651.

PEARL MICROPHONE LAB CT/DT-40: The CT40 uses a fixed-cardioid capsule, while the DT40 model offers a choice of five different polar patterns, making this microphone ideal for many recording applications. These mics use the classic Pearl dual-rectangular capsule, which allows them to achieve a very flat frequency response. The capsule is mounted in silicone and then supported on a cone to prevent sound reflections. Further, the microphones are powered by a traditionally designed circuit using a Nuvistor vacuum tube and high-quality transformer. NAB Booth: N4522.

PEARL MICROPHONE LAB ELM-B/C: Pearl has made rectangular capsules for many years now but never before with such an extreme (7:1) length/width ratio. The new linear capsule has more than twice the surface area of large-diameter round capsules, giving excellent signal/noise ratio, but avoids their high levels of in-band resonance. Therefore, this new microphone can deliver a very accurate, uniform and consistent response pattern, with very flat response, low noise and useful attenuation of “nuisance” reflections. The capsule is used in the new models ELM-B (figure-8) and ELM-C (cardioid), and is highly recommended for stereo recording. Retail: $2,000 to $2,425. NAB Booth: N4522.

SMART AV SMART CONSOLE ELITE 96: The Smart Console Elite 96 control surface offers control over a bevy of DAW features. The Smart Console’s patented ARC technology uses a physical arc located above the controls to represent all of the channels on a traditional long console. By touching the arc at any location, the desired channel and the channels surrounding it immediately appear in front of the sound engineer. With this single touch, 800 previously out-of-reach controls snap to within reach. The hand-written channel description is transferred to the digital scribble strip in front of the user. It currently works with systems such as Apple Logic Pro 7, Klotz Digital’s VADIS System, Merging Technologies’ Pyramix Virtual Studio, Yamaha’s DME64N and DME24N and the SADiE Series 5 PCM-H64.

LINEAR ACOUSTIC MODEL LA-5124 WITH AUTONORM: Working in cooperation with Dolby Labs, Linear Acoustic has developed the next step in audio loudness management. AutoNorm™ solves long-term loudness problems without sacrificing dynamic range or audio quality in a new version of the Linear Acoustic LA-5124 StreamStacker™ De-Multiplexer/AC-3 Splicer. Long-term dialog loudness is measured in an ATSC standard manner, and an appropriate dialog level value is inserted into one or more pre-compressed Dolby Digital (AC-3) streams by the LA-5124. This system is then able to provide automatic control of the long-term loudness of programming without any need for decoding and re-encoding, or for manually setting audio metadata parameters. AutoNorm technology can be installed at any DTV station from any network, and at program providers, cable head ends or satellite origination facilities NAB Booth: C3607F.

STUDIO MONITORS

ADAM AUDIO ARTIST: The Artist is a small, unique active monitor that is dedicated to a maximum in acoustic performance for applications requiring an attractive monitor with a small footprint. It uses a brand-new ADAM A.R.T. tweeter for frequencies above 2.2 kHz, providing breathtaking authenticity in the reproduction of music and speech. It is an ideal desktop solution for enthusiastic professional and hobbyist audio engineers and multimedia designers in search of no-compromise equipment in their A/V setup either at home or work. And, it is equally well-suited for any post-production room, home studio or mobile recording facility.

ADAM AUDIO P33-A: The P33-A is an excellent choice for recording enthusiasts who want the advantages of ADAM’s unique mirrored S3-A design at a lower price point. Like the S3-A, one woofer acts as a full-range driver with the second woofer joining it only below 150 Hz. This unusual approach effectively doubles the area and power of the woofer when it needs to respond to deeper frequencies, resulting in an exceptional low end without compromising midrange performance. The P33-A is shielded and has three 100W amplifiers that deliver outstanding dynamic performance. It can be used either horizontally or vertically, so that very flexible positioning within the studio is possible.
