─Concert Features Performance by GRAMMY® Award-Winner Herbie Hancock─
BUENA PARK, Calif.─Last month, many of United Airlines Headquarters employees were treated to a private performance by legendary GRAMMY® award-winner Herbie Hancock along with the Thelonius Monk Institute of Jazz band on the front lawn of their Elk Grove Village, Illinois headquarters. A lottery was held for 4,000 UA HQ employees to attend the performance with 400 lucky concertgoers winning tickets, leaving the bulk of the staff in place to run airline operations smoothly for busy air travelers.
Gand Concert Sound provided a NEXO GEO S12 line array system, flying six boxes per side using NX242 processors with ES-4 expansion cards and CD-18 subs powered by Yamaha PC-9501 amps. A Yamaha M7CL digital console was used at front of house, and Gand staff engineer Adam Rosenthal mixed monitors on a Yamaha LS9 digital console.
“The stage that was used had a minimal load rating, and what we love best about GEO S12 Series is that you can hang the boxes from anything because they are so light, states Tim Swan, Vice President & General Manager of Gand Concert Sound. The new NEXO boxes are really fantastic for this type of musical event—Gand FOH mixer Joe Perona says “they look good and provide great ‘in your face’ sound. After the show, Mr. Hancock raved about how great the GEO S12 system sounded; he was quite pleased as he sat in the audience for the ‘Monk’ set.
The NEXO GEO S1210/S1230 speaker cabinets are based upon a 12″ low driver and a 3″ compression driver intended to be a scalable building block that can be stacked or positioned in a horizontal or vertical array. The ‘NXStream’ DSP algorithms, developed for the GEO D10 and GEO T Series, have been incorporated to provide exceptional mid- and high-frequency response and increased control and protection of the low frequency drivers.
“All the manufacturers are racing to invent the new mini-line array, states Gary Gand, President. “NEXO has a proven product that has been on stages all over the world, and we’re glad to be one of the early pioneers of this great system.
AKG414 mics were used for Hancock’s ‘Fazzioli’ grand piano, Shure SM58s for vocals, and Sennheiser drum mics with AKG 414 overheads.
Gand Concert Sound will be in full swing this summer with dates booked using 78 boxes of their NEXO GEO T line arrays at both the Sears Center and Allstate Arenas.
