King Crimson, respected pioneer of British progressive rock, is remastering and releasing their catalogue in 5.1 audio and has used PenteoSurround processing. The group’s co-founder Robert Fripp chose Simon Heyworth to master the project at his Super Audio Mastering studios in southwest England. Engineer Steven Wilson re-mixed the album in 5.1 audio from original multitrack masters, except for a few crucial tracks available only in stereo.

“The problem we have faced with “The Devil’s Triangle” is our inability to find the original multi-tracks, leaving us with the original stereo mix,” commented Fripp in his online DGM Records diary. “Simon’s masterly touch, along with Penteo, has polished the job.”

When Fripp and Heyworth were completing the new special edition 5.1 re-release of the group’s second album, 1970’s “In the Wake of Poseidon, they needed to Up-mix the original Stereo mix of “The Devil’s Triangle” (parts I, II, and III). After extensive research into the options for stereo to 5.1 upmixing, they chose PenteoSurround over all other processors.

“PenteoSurround is stable, sonically accurate and free from the phase problems associated with other methods,” explained Heyworth. “It is quite simply the best up-mixer I have ever heard.”

Heyworth originally established his reputation in recording at Virgin’s Manor Studios, most notably as co-producer of Mike Oldfield’s “Tubular Bells.” He gained years of experience working as a mastering engineer in London, before establishing his own innovative mastering studio in 2002 specialising in Stereo and Surround Mastering.

Robert Fripp, guitarist, composer and record producer, is best known as King Crimson’s guitarist and only constant member of the band. His work, spanning four decades, encompasses a variety of musical styles. Fripp was ranked 42nd on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”
