Vienna, Austria – Martin Bohm, chief engineer and co-owner of MG Sound Studios, has chosen Avastor hard drives for his location recording of Vienna‘s lavish theatrical musicals. “Avastor is a pro solution for serious on the road recording,” he remarks.
MG Sound, founded in 1989, houses five full recording and audio post production studios and is the largest independent studio complex in Austria. Two studios house large format SSL consoles and all rooms are equipped with Pro Tools HD systems. Over the years, MG Sound has hosted sessions with U2, Meatloaf, Placido Domingo, and Marianne Faithfull, among hundreds of other artists. Bohm and his remote recording team have recorded the productions of such hit musicals as “Elisabeth,” “Romeo and Julia,” and the most recent blockbuster, “Rebecca,” which premiered last year in Vienna.
On location, Bohm is using SSL mic pre-amps throughout and SSL‘s XLogic Alpha-Link converters going directly into a mobile 80-channel ProTools HD rig. He records with a combination of the live microphones set up for the theatrical productions, augmented by the studio‘s mic collection, which includes B&K mics and the Neumann KU-100 binaural stereo “dummy head” for ambience.
“The Avastor drives are reliable and easy to interface with Pro Tools, and secure for transport with their LockBox,” Bohm explains. “The fans keep the drives cool and silent, the power supply is strong and internal, and the connectors are road-proven. You don‘t have to mess around with those cheap drives you find at your local computer dealer. If you‘ve got one chance to get it right, why not use a drive you can count on?”
Avastor offers one of the most comprehensive lines of external hard disk products, including over 20 configurations of drive interfaces and capacities for virtually every audio and video application.
