Pasadena, California, September 9, 2026 — AEA Ribbon Mics announces that Paul Pegas has been promoted to Director of Operations. Pegas has worked at the company for more than 23 years and most recently served as Technical Specialist. In his new role, he will focus on improving production efficiency, expanding AEA’s custom shop, updating its vintage microphone repair services, and developing collaborative relationships with other professional audio companies.
Pegas joined AEA in 2003 as a technician and shipping clerk, working under the company’s founder, Wes Dooley. Since then, his roles have included production manager and forensic audio expert, Lead Technician, and Technical Specialist. Over the years, Pegas has coordinated ribbon microphone production and vintage microphone repairs, trained production team members, and contributed to product research and development.
“When I first joined AEA, Paul was instrumental in teaching me about ribbon microphones and preamps,” said Julie Tan, CEO of AEA. “From the technical details to their applications, it quickly became clear that his knowledge of AEA’s technology and history runs incredibly deep. After I acquired the company from Wes, Paul helped me understand many of our manufacturing processes, while I shared what I knew about sales and marketing. Paul knows AEA inside and out, and having him lead our day-to-day operations feels like a natural next step.”
Beyond his work at AEA, Pegas has built an extensive career as a recording and live sound engineer. Through his business, Pegas Audio, he provides live recording, front-of-house mixing, audio restoration, and production sound mixing. He previously served as head mixing engineer at The Jazz Bakery in Culver City and has worked with hundreds of internationally recognized jazz and classical artists, including Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Pharoah Sanders, Charlie Haden, Elvin Jones, and Joey DeFrancesco.
“My goal isn’t to shake things up too much,” said Pegas. “I want to find new ways to solve some longstanding challenges. Everyone at AEA takes a lot of pride in their work, and I want to build on that as we grow. We also have some special projects underway that I hope we’ll be able to share soon. Ultimately, I want to make sure the team has what it needs to succeed without everything depending on any one person.”
