The Audio Engineering Society’s forthcoming DVD Oral History Project is dedicated to preserving the genius of iconic audio pioneers in their own words. In conjunction with the upcoming 131st AES Convention set for October 20-23, 2011, at New York City’s Javits Center, Committee Chair Jim Anderson developed a series of YouTube clips to highlight the series.
Beginning on September 4, the AES will deliver one video promo per day to the phones of the subscribers. The promos will also be posted on YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. The campaign will wrap up on October 23, 2011, the final day of the 131st Convention.
In addition, Anderson created 17 movie promo videos in the style of the 1950s, and edited 50 “best of” videos that are each three minutes in length. “With over a hundred DVD interviews to choose from, deciding who to feature in this campaign was a major challenge,” Anderson says. “We ended up going with some of the best known and most colorful figures, including Dave Hewitt, Bob Ludwig, Frank Laico, Phil Ramone, Ray Dolby, and John Eargle. But all the audio wizards featured in the DVD Oral History Project are distinguished by idiosyncratic accomplishments, which have literally changed the pro audio world.
“The Oral History Project represents a huge commitment to posterity,” Anderson concludes. “Initiated in 1997 by long-time AES member Irv Joel, guided by Bill Wray, and edited by Harry Hirsch it provides an invaluable link to the past as the audio innovators and industry leaders who built the foundation of our industry personally describe their contributions. From Les Paul to Bruce Martin, Frank Abbey, Ioan Allen, and John Meyer, this rich legacy should be of huge interest to industry pros and students alike.”
