Last summer, Pro Sound News and Pro Audio Review managing editor Fred Goodman released his latest album, The Last Days of Rock ‘n’ Roll, and we blogged about his video for the title track at the time. Now, proving you can’t keep a Goodman down, he’s back with a new clip, “Rockin’ Into Summer,” in honor of the Beach Boys’ 50th Anniversary.
Goodman is no stranger to writing rockin’ tunes; in fact, he’s written several international hits, including “We Belong to the Night,” which was a #1 record in Holland for Ellen Foley. Foley’s version of another Goodman tune, “Hideaway,” is included on her Nightout CD. “Hideaway” was also recorded by the Iron City Houserockers. Dozens of Goodman’s songs have been recorded and more than 100 have been published. His tune, “Didn’t It Look So Easy,” was an R&B hit for the Stairsteps and can be found on their Greatest Hits CD.
Like any artist, Fred couldn’t help but tinker with his work. As a result, this is radically different from the album version of “Rockin’ Into Summer;” he’s now remixed the track with a new vocalist, Bil Kurz, and added some sweet Wilson-esque harmonies to boot. Given the changes, the video is billed as being by Seal Beach Surf Club, to add a taste of SoCal flavor. Fred wrote and produced the track, with engineering tackled by Harley Fine, who also tackled video editing and laser-like tambourine playing, as seen in the clip.
