Mixing With Mo-FI at Tokyo Dome

Faced with mixing Earth Wind & Fire’s Philip Bailey inside the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome, FOH engineer Terry “TJ” Jackson recently used Blue Microphone Mo-Fi headphones to help tune the PA and provide reference for his mix.

Tokyo, Japan (March 5, 2015)—Faced with mixing Earth Wind & Fire’s Philip Bailey inside the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome, FOH engineer Terry “TJ” Jackson recently used Blue Microphone Mo-Fi headphones to help tune the PA and provide reference for his mix.

“Spatial timing and panning is extremely important to a good mix, and having a reliable reference point is critical—especially for vocal and horn-focused bands like Earth, Wind & Fire,” he said. “Mo-Fi sounds so good that I can use them to create the live mix, then tune the sound system to sound like Mo-Fi! I can now mix FOH like I’m in the studio. Mixing stadium concert tours is challenging, and it’s very important for me to have a reference point that I can rely on. Mo-Fi gives me a level of sound quality and consistency that I’ve never experienced before. I can’t do this without Mo-Fi. These are my new standard.”

Frequently asked to do mixing work during his down time while out on the road, Jackson has been opting to use Mo-Fi rather than carry monitors with him. “Mo-Fi has solved huge workflow problems for me,” continued Jackson. “I’m always mixing tracks on the road, and Mo-Fi gives me the sound quality and consistency I need to get work done wherever I am. Near-fields are old school, Mo-Fi is now. I’m not even going to think about using near-fields—I am all about these headphones.”
