Røros, Norway (September 21, 2026)—Creating an outdoor theater in the middle of giant copper mining slag heaps and then producing a musical there about 10,000 Swedish soldiers enroute to taking Norway might not seem like a straight path to success. That is, however, exactly what happens every year in Røros, Norway, when it stages Elden, a Norwegian historical musical written by Arnfinn Strømmevold and Bertil Reithaug.

The musical has been staged in the unusual setting of the Røros World Heritage Site’s slag heaps every summer since 1994, starting each performance around 9:30 PM and wrapping up around midnight. This year’s edition drew nearly 12,000 spectators. Audio production for the yearly show is provided by rental company Pro Systemer AS, which opted to use Outline P12 coaxial loudspeakers as stage wedges at key positions across the staging area.
Frode Trondahl, project manager at Pro Systemer AS, explained, “We have been looking for a new 12-inch coaxial wedge monitor for some time, to replace our existing monitors. They needed to be lighter, to sound at least as good as what we already had, to offer flexibility in terms of rigging and setup, and to provide better protection for outdoor use in rainy conditions—IP54—than our current monitors.”

Given that the company tackles more than 1,000 projects a year, the P12s weren’t chosen solely for use on Elden, but they did get pressed into service for the show, which meant 10 consecutive nights on an exposed mountain site. “The Outline P12 wedges generally performed well and stood up to the harsh conditions that outdoor theatre in Norway is,” Fredrik Hagland, Sound Designer for Elden, reported. “They delivered the same monitoring even when there was rain straight into them.”
