Avid announces that every winner and nominee in the Sound Editing and Sound Mixing categories at the 87th Academy Awards was crafted by Avid customers using Avid Artist Suite audio.
Avid Pro Tools was used for sound editing and mixing for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), American Sniper, The Imitation Game, Selma, and Whiplash.
In the Sound Editing category, all five nominees—winner Alan Robert Murray and Bub Asman for American Sniper; Martin Hernández and Aaron Glascock for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance); Brent Burge and Jason Canovas for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies; Richard King for Interstellar; and Becky Sullivan and Andrew DeCristofaro for Unbroken—all relied on Pro Tools for sound editing.
Pro Tools was also used by all five nominees in the Sound Mixing category—winner Craig Mann, Ben Wilkins and Thomas Curley for Whiplash; John Reitz, Gregg Rudloff and Walt Martin for American Sniper; Jon Taylor, Frank A. Montaño and Thomas Varga for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance); Gary A. Rizzo, Gregg Landaker and Mark Weingarten for Interstellar; Jon Taylor, Frank A. Montaño and David Lee for Unbroken.

Avid customers were also recognized for their outstanding achievements in sound mixing at the 51st Annual CAS Awards. Presented by the Cinema Audio Society on February 14, 2015, in Los Angeles, the awards recognized many of the film and television industries’ most gifted sound mixers who use Avid Everywhere, including the Avid MediaCentral and Avid Artist Suite audio solutions.
Sound mixer Jeff Fuller, who won the television non-fiction, variety or music series or specials category for Foo Fighters Sonic Highways: Los Angeles, used Avid Pro Tools to mix the documentary series. “It’s truly an honor to be nominated and win a CAS Award,” Fuler says. “Working with Avid Pro Tools on Sonic Highways was a no brainer. It integrated seamlessly with Media Composer and helped us deal with increasingly tight timelines.”
Avid customers also won CAS Awards for their work on Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and Modern Family: Australia.
