L.A. Recording Studio Fire Kills Two; Arson Suspected

The fire broke out at 7 A.M. on Saturday morning; by day’s end, the LAPD had made an arrest.

Los Angeles, CA (April 16, 2018)—A fire inside a recording facility in Studio City claimed two lives on Saturday morning, while leaving two others in critical condition. The cause of the 7 A.M. blaze appears to have been arson, as by day’s end, police had arrested Efrem Demery, 28, in connection with the fire, on suspicion of murder.

Studio Sued for Fraud After Arson Fire

More than 80 firefighters were called to the scene to put out the fire at Top Notch Recordings, a multi-room recording and rehearsal facility at 3779 N. Cahuenga Boulevard.

The facility was open 24 hours, and police estimated there were roughly a dozen people inside the building when the fire broke out. According to the LAFD, the fire took 28 minutes to extinguish, and the room where the fire took place was 50 feet by 75 feet.

The names of the victims, two men, have not been released, nor the names of the man and woman in critical condition. A police press conference regarding the arrest is scheduled for Monday afternoon at 3 P.M. PST.
