AES Product Announcement: SSL X-Logic X-Rack

Solid State Logic, a high-end analog and digital console manufacturer, introduced the X-Rack Dynamics Package at AES New York (October 7-10).

Solid State Logic, a high-end analog and digital console manufacturer, introduced the X-Rack Dynamics Package at AES New York (October 7-10). The X-Rack delivers the same legendary SuperAnalogue™ sound and functionality found on the flagship XL 9000 K Series console. A unique feature of the X-Rack unit is the incorporation of SSL’s legendary Total Recall® system, both for stand-alone use, and use with SSL’s popular AWS 900 Analogue Workstation System.

“The X-Rack is a new modular rack package that has been developed in response to many requests from existing XLogic and AWS 900 users,” says Niall Feldman, director of product marketing for SSL. “The X-Rack is a perfect complement to the current XLogic range of acclaimed rackmounting audio products, adding a whole new range of top-shelf signal processing to every situation from the desktop studio to the ultra-high end facility.”

The X-Rack Dynamics Package offers up to eight mono dynamics processor modules based on the XL 9000 K Series SuperAnalogue console in a 4U 19-inch rackmount enclosure, complete with Total Recall capability. The modules replicate the performance, as well as the look and feel of the XL 9000 K through a vertical control layout. Controls feature variable Ratio, Threshold and Release compressor adjustments, with RMS/Peak operation and fast/slow attack switches, and variable Range, Threshold, Release and Hold Gate/Expander adjustments with fast/slow attack.

The unit offers fully balanced inputs and outputs, Compressor and Gate LED metering, a +4dBu/-10dBV input gain switch and an SEL switch for selecting a channel. The back panel features XLR balanced connectors with selectable sidechain, external triggering switch and connector. Each rack has its own internal multi-tap mains power supply and a front panel on/off switch.

The Total Recall facility offers 32 local flash memory recalls and Save/Load switches for custom setup and recall of entire settings. An external interface allows integrated connection to the AWS 900 console. A daisy-chain connection of multiple X-Rack units is also available. Total Recall data is easily saved from the X-Rack into the AWS and from there onto a DAW.

“In an age where many hit songs may start their recorded life in compromised acoustic environments captured by a wide range of digital recording systems, the XLogic Series provides a uniform level of sonic excellence for every project,” comments Feldman. “The X-Rack continues this tradition by delivering pinnacle dynamics processing to the engineer, artist and producer interested in the uncompromising audio quality of advanced SSL electronics.”
